The Fix Steam Sims 3 DLC petition thread

Apparently a lot of people have bought DLC from Steam only to find it doesn't work for some reason, whereas using your Steam CD keys through Origin works just fine.

Sign here if you've been afflicted by this and maybe we can finally get Steam Support to take these issues seriously.

Here's the message I just sent Steam Support:


"I purchased...

Sims 3
High-End Loft Stuff
Outdoor Living Stuff
Pets
Master Suite Stuff
Showtime
Diesel Stuff
Supernatural

,,,but only the Supernatural and Diesel content works. The Sims 3 launcher claims I do not own any of the other DLCs, even though I can see I own them on Steam and I have even successfully registered all of their CD Keys through TheSims3.com.

Appearently A LOT of Steam users are experiencing issues like this, whereas the games and all DLC will work just fine when the CD Keys are used through Origin. The issue is not related to EA or Origin, it is a Steam issue. Please fix. Thank you.

I strongly prefer Steam, but if I and others have to switch to Origin because Steam cannot take some responsibility for the content sold on its store, it looks unprofessional regardless of how certain you are justified that the blame lies in EA.

UDPATE: While your DLC will eventually work after Steam updates Sims 3 properly (there's no way to force the update after you buy a DLC, I had to wait an hour for it to kick in), the Steam Sims 3 Launcher is still not up-to-date so you can't download content from Sims3.com or get game updates correctly.

I recently purchased:
Seasons and Late Night

because of the high interest i had in both of them and when i was done installing them for the first time i received a steam "disk read error" I tried verifying files and everything, it kept also stating that the steam program was 100% (on the side) so at the moment I am trying to full install again to hopefully get the game to work...if not, my only option is to register my copies on origin. (pretty sure i also heaard something about the patches for the sims as well being more recent on there too...?) <-<

@CrimsonessCross: Man your error sounds worse than mine. I don't get any errors, it's just that the Sims 3 Launcher doesn't even acknowledge that I have the DLCs period.

@Cryptic: Everyone seems to be getting different results for various DLCs. For me, only Supernatural and Diesel stuff worked. Though I see that an hour later Steam suddenly starts downloading an update for Sims 3. Maybe it will be fixed after this?

I'm pretty sure they already do take it seriously and are working to fix the issue. My issue at the moment is purchasing DLC when I have an origin copy of sims 3. = /

Cla can you post back if the Steam patch fixes anything? Don't know now if it's worth downloading on orign insted so i don't mess up my internet cap by downloading twice =/

@maninthebush: Supposedly people have gotten responses from Steam Support that simply equate to "It's not our problem. Contact EA." And then when you attempt to contact EA, they simply tell you to switch to Origin.

@Cryptic: Will do. The download is at 60% right now... with 20 minutes to go.

Has anyone tried registering the keys they got from Steam with EA? I only have 2 expansions (Ambitions + Generations) but both are working for me and I registered their keys and the base game with EA and they show up in the row at the bottom of the Sims 3 Launcher.

@Iceblade: Supposedly you don't have to do that to make them work. (Supernatural and Diesel worked for me even before I registered them) But yes I have since registered all my DLCs through TheSims3.com and it did not immediately fix the problem. The Sims3 website shows I own all the DLCs I bought...

...but the game launcher still does not acknowledge them yet. But I suspect the launcher will see them after this 5+ GB update finishes. (10 minutes to go)

Oh random question... Aren't you supposed to get free SimsPoints after you register a DLC? I don't seem to have gotten any...

The update has made the launcher acknowledge my DLCs. Now to see if they actually work in game.

Though I have ran into another small issue. I can't seem to get any of the free bonus items you get for registering the DLCs to actually download. The launcher is open and I click the Download button under an item from the TheSims3 website, and nothing ever happens. The launcher doesn't queue it or anything.

Everything seems to be working except for downloading content from TheSim3s.com.

Well it DOES work on Steam after re-downloading...but after all that I'm just downloading from origin. They apparently (on the sims 3 launcher) have a "Game Updates" section that is missing from the Sims 3 launcher on steam...probably because it auto-updates but either way it is nice to know through patch notes what has been done.

I just don't know, in a way, which one I should use at this point.

Also I think someone on a Steam Sims 3 discussion mentioned something like "If you like/want mods on the sims 3 don't use steam"...something like that.

As for your issue, I honestly have no idea what the frick is going on :/ wish I could help or solve it.

Yeh I got, Season's and Late night, and only season's work, it really sucks I hope they fix it soon and I am glad I am not the only one ;D

I'm happy with my Sims 3 and expansions, but I realise I'm part of a Community. So if it doesn't affect me or my gameplay negatively which obviously this petition doesn't then I might as well give mine.. Here it is.
Presently I have Late Night and Supernatural.
