Found this in the FAQ the other night when I was deciding to buy Sims 3 or not as I played the original, but atm really can't see me just running it with other things to do. Basically uninstall it from Steam and reinstall through Origin and it should work from the bulletpoints.
Steam installation, and Caw[forum.thesims3.com]

You don't have to uninstall from Steam. I got the following link to YouTube from someone over on the EA Sims3 forums, which gives step by step instructions on how to install CAW for Steam installations on Windows7.

If you're uncomfortable editing the registry, even though the video is easy to follow, get help from someone who knows what they're doing.

***WARNING***
Before editing the registry, always create a Restore Point on your system, so that you can undo anything you screw up.

also make sure you do it like he does it.. that way you still got sims (steam) and sims .. and not just 1 or the other.

Good point. I was assuming that anyone doing this would follow the instructions exactly, but unfortunately, that isn't always the case. My bad! Thanks for pointing it out,

Be sure you're looking in the right place in your registry editor. I have Windows 8 and that's exactly where mine is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Wow6432Node > Sims(Steam)
