Sims 3 Pets: Adopting a stray pet *help needed*

I recently purchased the Pet's expansion pack but I'm having trouble with the strays. I bought the gnomes (about 8 of them) and whatnot but I'm still having a very difficult time luring pets to "my home". I don't exactly want to use cheats for this. Does anyone have any tips/adivce? I would really appreiciate it.

theres a hack to get passed EAs computer specs so you can have way mores sims and animals walk your town. Go to gamehubs sims3 and then guides its under how to get more sims in your clubs. This should help out alot it did for me.

Be patient. It's not like a stray shows up at your house every two minutes.

You have to 'watch' the pet so they can trust you. It's in the lessons.

You don't need to find the stray animals at your home location either, you can find them anywhere, via parks, on the street, random other sim's households, and as DemonRose pointed out, you need to "watch" a few times so they trust you before you can start to build up a relationship with them. Reading lessons, while they seem boring, helps a lot =)
