Steam game- CD expanion
I have Sims 3 through steam, but i bought one of the expansions at wal mart.. thought "what the hey" ya know... got home and tried to install it.. it tells me to install sims 3 first. Well i realize steam puts the file in a different location, and that's the cause.. but the trouble is that the expansion auto searches then fails to find it and then gives up... it doesnt give you the oppertunity at all to tell it where to look!

so, that said, any ideas on what to do here?

I don't think you can actually do anything but return the game.. I know gamestop doesn't take back PC games but im not sure if wal mart will. You would most likely just have to buy the add ons from steam.
or maybe this..

Read down slightly and it says it worked for one of her expantion packs. Hope this helps!

Since i have the CD key's registered, i decided to just Uninstall my Steam sims3 game.. and reinstall it through Orgin. Any future puchases of sims stuff will be just to get my hands on the CD key lol

Oh geez lol I hate CD copies haha they just pile up.. Plus I would rather download everything. Faster that way plus I could play from other computers, but that was a good way to solve your problem. :)

easily solved take the product key from the base game put it in origin then it'll download the base game, enter the product key of the dlc you bought and download it now you can play them through origin or you can click on games in steams select add none steam game and select origin as a none steam game it now loads up with steam.
