If you want a Sims game, but don't want.. as many loading times, this is the one you want.
The Sims 3 was around a long time. Building on the Wishes mechanic of the second game, this one has Lifetime Rewards, where you can gain points for keeping moodlets high and fufilling their various desires.
These points can be cashed in at any point.
Personally, I recommend getting the Supernatural and Late Night expansion packs if you like cities, and like an easier way to be immortal but still allow aging. Being a vampire is pretty fun.
Late Night adds a small city to play in, which admittedly feels a bit... empty. You'll want to play custom towns off the Sims3modding website.
Beyond that... Sims 3 is a mostly open world, non-instanced Sims game. It has problems, sure, it's buggy, it can do a lot of things at once meaning when you save your game it takes forever, you will find horses hanging around a single empty lot if you have pets.
Also, don't get seasons: much of the weather effects are really resource intensive and may kill your game.
