What killed the game is no in game chat and no community hub, people cannot communicate so that is a death sentence for an online game.
Plug in any controller and use that instead of the keyboard. We did this on our home computers in the 80's, you should be able to do so now as well. To give a half serious answer to your trollpost, no, not that many are playing this online unfortunately.
I've had a lot of times where I've run into full rooms on weekends, it's also mostly the Europeans that play this i think, so you have to play according to their timezone.
Or you're terrible at the HP mode; it's the only mode I ever bothered with online because it's so damn fun.
