Where is the pope?
I am playing as Venice and I have an empire. I was ♥♥♥♥ed off because the pope let other cristian factions attack me and I was supposed to wait or I would be excommunicated. So I captured Rome and now I want to make peace with the pope but I cannot find him.

you cant destroy Papal States, I'm 90% I saw this even in game manual. Every time you destroy last (or only) province of Papal States it will re-establish itself in a world as one of the AI players will sacrifice a province to be new household for Papa. That particular player (it's also could be you if AI destroys Papal States) will get a TREMENDOUS boost at relationships with the Church.

P.S. Logically, the player which gives his land to Papa should be a christian leader of sort. I'm highly doubt it that muslim states do care what happens to Papa :}

If the Pope is a member of enemy faction you are at war with that includes their allies too... then the pope doesn't like you. If you become to aggresive and knock off christian kingdoms to expand yours, then the pope will start to dislike you including your own pope. What is your option for not to ♥♥♥♥ off the pope... either you can do missions for hte pope... the more successful you are in completing these task the more mission you are given and more you recieve in money, freedom and favoritism. You can also force factions to go into with you with spies, and assassins and letting them be caught or killing off princess/priest/merchants, transgression such as crossing into their territory and getting back into yours. Small stuff that ♥♥♥♥es them off but the Pope really doesn't care about. If you can kill all the family members of a faction "Males" then all the territory of that factions turns into rebel settlments thus no Pope getting mad. ORRRrrrrr.... Use your princess and make her become queen of another faction and killing off all the heirs and last the king before a child is born, then you inhert there lands after the kings death. Wow that was alot... this is why I love Medieval II and keep coming back to it even after new launch of other Total War games. If you like realism check out this mod, Stainless Steel 6.4, watch somebody play on youtube. If you like it like I did... come back here and watch this tutorial on how to install it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnAMXbVEsKk

After reading most of the comments of theese people, i am confused. @Ciciro, you can always peace the pope, you just need to find him. @FireOccator yes, the pope will go in certain parts of the map, particulary if there has been a notable decrease in Catholic christianity in that provience, and a rise in other religions. @SephiriotH You're 90 %? I don't know what you meant by that, and that what you stated never happened to me. @"PaPa" Smitty, this guy did not ask for an instalation for stainless steel. Listen fire, if he doesn't go where he went (Africa) Hes usually hidin in the forest in Rome that borders Bologna and Rome. c: Hope it helped!

Instead of conquering, you could just assasinate the pope you know, and get your own cardinal to become the pope. Always keep in mind of how many crosses your nation has, which represents how much the pope favours you. When you start war with a Catholic nation (not Russia and Byzantine since they're orthodox), the pope doesn't like it.

As it says in the manual, should the Pope's faction be destroyed (its territories captured) then it should get given a region from another catholic faction.
