How to get the "We don't need no water" achievement.
This achievement seemed pretty hard to me at first but I got it done on my second try after switching techniques. Here is what I did:
  • Make a new character and choose the barbarian. Even though he has more health than other classes, his higher strength will increase the red mana you gain from red gems, which will increase how much damage you take per match and how much the fire is healed.
  • Play through the first few quests and put your points into strength.
  • By the time you get to the burning inn quest you should be level 3 and have 6 strength which will give you +2 red mana gained.
  • Play the burning inn minigame.
  • Obviously, you want to match red gems and other non blue gems.
  • Study the board before matching something to make sure it isn't going to cause a match of 4 or more blues to line up.
  • If you see that a row of 4 or more blues will be matched when you make your next move, check to see if there is a blue gem you can move to match only 3 blue gems and eliminate the 4 blue match from happening.
  • Match rows as close to the top as possible to minimize the chance of a cascade which can cause you to win the minigame very quickly which is not what we are going for.
  • If there are no red gem matches available, and no other non blue gem matches that can be made without matching a ton of blues in the process, match a row of 3 blue gems near the top of the board to try and get some other non blue gems to show up.
  • Try to make matches near or above existing red gems to increase the chance that a red gem that drops onto the board will be close enough to existing reds to make a match possible.
  • If you accidentally win the minigame do not click "done" on the victory screen or your game will automatically save and you will need to create a new character to try again. Instead, hit crtl-alt-del and end the Puzzle Quest 2 task. When you go back into the game and continue with your level 3 barbarian you will be one screen away from the inn fire quest and can try it again quicker than if you had to make a new character.

Let me know if there is something that I should add or change to make this strategy better. I hope this helps someone. Goodluck!

I've tried twice and failed. It's too bad the game won't let you save specific save files instead of auto-saving. I hate that I have to start a new character and do the stupid easy battles just to get to the inn to try it.

If you accidentally win the minigame, don't click "done" on the victory screen (so it doesn't save) just hit crtl-alt-del to bring up the windows task manager and end the Puzzle Quest 2 task. When you go back into the game and continue you will start just before the inn fire quest. That way you don't have to make a new character to try again.

Awesome! Now I just wonder how many tries it will take me to do this achievment.

I did this last night. I would add to the suggestions, when the YOU WIN thing comes up, hit ESC and go to Exit Game quickly before the results screen shows up. It won't count you as having won the game, so you can have another go at it. And it is possible to grind in Quick Battle outside of Quest Mode if you want to put more points into Strength and thus have more red mana per match.

If you're nearing the end of a losing battle, instead of [ctrl, alt, del] I use [esc] and quit game. It'll take you to the map just before the battle screen so you may easily jump back in with a fresh set of gems. Also do this for unlucky treasure looting attempts.
