A game I would love to recommend due to It's "Sandboxy" nature, offering superB freedom with superB customization available to both the towns you manage, the castles you make to defend them and even your tech tree. What smashes any hope of this happening however, is the ball-breaking amount of restrictions and limits put on people that can't/don't want to pay for the game.. On a monthly basis. The cheapest you can buy for premium to last 30 days costs about 9€ in total by using the in-game "Crowns".
They start by giving you one or two days worth of premium in an attempt to try and suck you in, and while I personally had fun during this time, I did not manage to accomplish much and once the premium was taken away from me, boy did I get smacked in the face. No more putting research in queues. No more building more than 1 buildings at a time. No more offline activities and no more allowed mistakes if you misplace a building by having an option to move it elsewhere
As my premium was removed, I started poking around in the store and then It hit me - This game is a Pay 2 Win. You buy tokens and with tokens, you can buy: Massive armies, Giant foritications for your castle, Food for your people, Building material and boosts to everything, varying from your stone quarries pumping out twice as much product to your diplomatic influence skyrocketing. 'Oh crap, that's the catch' I said to myself as I started doing more research. "INVITE FRIENDS AND GET CROWNS!" It says in the store with a big fat asterisk missing on this ad to mention that you will ONLY get crowns if the friend you invited spends in-game.
Every ounce of this game is designed around the concepts of people spending frillous amounts of money by gambling with card packs or running out of patience with the overly expensive buildings & their lengthy construction times and cashing out their settlements with the purchase of cards that either add massive amounts of resources INSTANTLY or boost production of them to the point where you don't need to spend any more effort on expanding a product line to suit your needs.
TL;DR: Only play this game If you are willing to accept the fact that It is a factual pay-2-win designed to milk your wallet and nothing else. Is it shiny? Yes, on many parts - But at what cost?
