Is there way to scale the interface/ui?

I have my screen resolution set to the largest it will go, but that also makes the interface/ui bigger too. I now have this annoyingly large user interface and can't really see my town all that well. When I zoom out things just start to get foggy and my interface still is in the way. I've seen videos on youtube where the interface takes up less of the screen, but google search isn't very helpful in finding me an answer.

Does anyone know how to change/mod this?
