Black Screen at Startup

When I launch the game, I get nothing but a black screen. No video, no audio, nothing. I've tried it with both my Steam copy and my GameFly copy, and both do the same thing. I've tried verifying the cache, running as administrator, and using compatibility mode. It does the same thing every time. Any ideas?

Apparently it has something to do with USB ports. Unplug everything you have plugged into a USB port, besides the mouse and keyboard of course, and it should fix the issue. My Cyborg Gaming Lights were what was causing it for me.

For me changing the config file to my native resolution fixed it. Also you may need to disable HID compliant devices in Device Manager to eliminate the lag... but only the entries that start with HID or you may lose your mouse and/or keyboard! :p (left alt+left shift+numlock to turn on mouse keys if that stops working)

As soon as you mentioned lag and HID devices it reminded me that F.E.A.R. had a tendency to lag after 5 mins unless you disabled HID's or jerry-rigged something up. Monolith made both games...

Looks like once I get rid of this persistent black screen that lingers for 3 mins before the game starts I will then have to figure out a way to destroy the plans of the lag.

find the local game file --> right on the condemned game icon, go to properties --> switch to the Compatibility tab --> enable "Disable full screen optimization".

The first result when you type "condemned steam black screen" into Google.

And it works.
