How to save during a mission at the sewer grates?

I've been playing the third mission over and over again and each time, even if both characters have touched the saved game location where the sewer grates are I still can only load the entire mission rather than where I last saved. This seemed to work for me at the hospital mission, but not anymore. Anyone else have this problem or anyone solve this problem?

Nevermind, I needed all characters to go to the sewer grate in order to save. My bad. Finally beat that mission.
