Should get a reboot
many games are later re-released with remastered versions. This game seems interesting, Id like to see a reboot with controller support, using rb lb to go through inventory select an item and use for example. Also removal of black bars or is that just modern resolution support? The attention to detail is great so Id buy it!

I've been wanting to upgrade Scratches for some time now as it has aged badly. We have a new engine that addresses every complain I received since the game was released, but annoying legal complications are preventing me from doing so. Never say never, though :)

Legal complications can be so annoying, it gets in the way of creativity which is the worst. Its worth it to keep fighting and great that you kept up with a new engine and all. its a very unique experience from other Mystery games I played.
Good luck!

It's alredy a "reboot", it's called Director's cut for something. And why controller in an adventure game? You have to look around static screens and interact with some spots, a mouse fit alredy well with that. You don't even use keyboard, why do they should remake from "scratch" (for the third time) an alredy re-released game?

It would be nice if you can just make a new IP on that new engine
