I think that, you're kinda missing the point =x
The game let's you look at every mirror and every object because it wants you to immerse into the world - "Oh! but, it's a bunch of 360º screenshots!" - it is... but, let me tell you my personal experience.
I love horror games and movies, and I always - ALWAYS - play/watch them when I'm home alone, at night, with very low light, so I can get scared and creeped out.
With Scratches, the first time I entered that house I instantly got uncorftable... I was alone in the dark (lol) with only the light of my PC, and hearing the strong wind on the outside, smashing into my window, combine that with the noises and eerie music of the game, and just like that, the game immerses you in this old abandoned house that you can explore every little corner!
I must say, it's an awesome and scary feeling. It feels like that, at any time, something weird can happen.
I personally don't like the gameplay either, it would be much awesome in a 1st person 3D like Amnesia, but, the game is what it is =) and it's a one hell of experience!
Also, see "The Cat Lady", that game was the best adventure horror game I've played in the last 10 years! It's just mindblowing awesome!
