Scratches: Director's Cut

Thoughts on game
No spoilers in this thread, I just wanted to share my thoughts for other fans of the horror/adventure genre on this game, i did a small review as well.
Wow this game had a lot of potential, I loved it in the beginning but for me the puzzles
became way to random to solve through any sort of logical means, I dont see
how a game that is done so well in so many others fails on such a basic
level, the combining of items and re-searching areas ,even with hints, becomes such
a tedious chore that only the most die hard of completists would want to drudge through
the thick swamp of guesswork that allows you to go to the next part of the game.
Such a shame, so much wasted potential, hard to reccomend as a game but beautiful nonetheless.

I am not a die hard completist. And, most that have completed this game are not either; yes, I have talked to most that have completed this game and know they are not die hard completist. So, your assessment of "die hard of completists':

"only the most die hard of completists would want to drudge through the thick swamp of guesswork that allows you to go to the next part of the game",

is not true and those interested in this game should know they do not have to be "die hard of completists' to still enjoy this game.

Read my review as to know why many people love this game and can get through the hard puzzles; and, the reasoning why some cannot get through this game and the puzzles.

We will have to agree to disagree, I can give 2 samples without giving away the exact puzzles

Lets use a tv station as an example ( there are no tv's in this game but this is similair to one of the puzzles) Lets say this game has 20 tv's, and you can look at all of them close up , but ONE of them has a certain area you have to click on to reveal a secret panel behind it

Another example, lets say you have a gun and you have to shoot a hole in a wall, well you try it the first time and it doesnt work, so than you have to do it the 2nd time and THAN it works, another puzzle is similiair to this

Or worst of all, lets just have a places all over that you have to re visit at random, like a bus station where you take a nap on the bench only it doesnt tell you when it is that time, you just have to keep going back to the bus bench

These are all examples of poor game design and all are repeated often in this game, lots of re checking and random clicking and mixing of items

You are not the first, and will not be the last, to complain about the puzzles in this game. And, it is true that most will need a walkthrough to complete this game.

However, people should be aware that there are two groups of tastes when it comes to either disliking Scratches OR liking Scratches. Basically, it is a game you either hate or love.

There is a good fan base, dare I say a cult following, to Scratches. Most of us that love this game would agree about the puzzles being hard, even overly hard. However, because the other aspects of the game are so wonderful, we don't mind using a walkthrough (as many do for other games as well) when the puzzles/game start frustrating us; so that we can continue to enjoy this wonderful (in our opinion) game to the final climatic ending.

To be clear, the hate/dislike group and the love/like group are just different tastes; one is not better than the other. Visit my steam profile page to read my 'two sides of the coin' review on Scratches.

I understand, dont get me wrong, I am far from hating this game , I liked it a lot, and that for me was the problem, i felt the game had so much potential, Im a big fan of games that create their own world, and this one really does that well, really sucks you in, the problem was (for me) the constant back and forth between the areas with very little, or no clue, as to sequence.

Agreed, this game can be a downer with all the back and forth hunting; and I would prefer not to use a walkthrough. Good thoughts Spider Ace!
