Theatre of War 2: Africa 1943

Vargas78 Dec 11, 2013 @ 7:14am
I own 1943 Africa and Centauro, it worked once and now it doesnt
What happened? I did do a couple of upgrades but that shouldnt affect it right? It's not like i changed the motherboard or processor.

Is it because i moved my soundcard and from one pci slot to another and then back again?

I know there are issues with sound some users have reported.

What happens? Does the game start? If it crashes, post contents of log.lst file here (it is located in the game folder).

The game starts, the videos (which are pretty cool) run. But, as it loads a mission there is a red bar that goes around in a circle. Once it is complete the screen goes black and it exits game and brings me back to desktop.

(I am currently in the process of reinstalling it, as i just tried Kursk and that had the same problem. But Theatre of War 1 still works)

I will post contents of this log.lst file shortly, thanks for quick response.

The log.lst file is in a shell format so i am not sure how to post it here. I could maybe email it, a copy of it to you or a support website?

Please keep in touch and inform me on how to proceed

Many thanks!

For the reccord, that is based on a clean reinstall as i had been trying different settings before that.

If we are going to find out the problem i think it's best to do it on a clean install that hasnt had anything tweaked, right?

I posted the notepad format of the file. Any news on the following mate?

For the record, when Theatre of War 2 did work I was using an ATI 6850, i then part exchanged/paid for an upgrade an ATI 6870. The 6870 card runs well on everything else, including Theatre of War 1, but Africa and Kursk are no longer working. I havent tried Theatre of War 3 Korea with the new 6870, yet.

Hello, i am experiencing EXACTLY the same problems:

- TOW 1 works fine
- TOW 2 Africa, Kursk and TOW 3 Korea do NOT work !!!

It happens in the exactly same manner as for the OP:

!!! As soon as the mission, battle, campaign,... loading screeen is finished the game crashes without further actions to desktop !!!

- Fresh reinstall
- tried it with every possible settings
- tried to repair it
----> nothing works

If you cant fix this, can u pls give us some advice for a workaround ? Thx

Also running in administrator mode....for everything, i'd go so far as to disable UAC while testing this problem. EDIT: was this game intended for your operating system? try compatibility mode!

I've tried all those things, compatibility for xp, run as admin, disable sound even. None seems to work. Which is strange as when i first bought the game, it ran fine, without me having to change or adapt anything. Until i upgraded my video card (to a very similar one).

I have since even bought a new hard drive, which has only ever known this new video card, and still the problem persists. And it is using the latest ati drivers. As far as i'm aware, all my drivers are up to date. Theatre of War 1 still works, but none of the others do.

Odd, You say you have a new hdd? Is there any possibility your old drivers are still installed anywhere on the os?
Vargas78 Mar 29, 2014 @ 5:40am
I dont really know why they would be, i installed win7 onto the new hdd and downloaded the current ati driver, also installed a creative labs driver for the soundcard.

The wierd thing is that in the past the game did work, it stopped when i got the 6870.
