Star Wolves 3: Civil War

Star Wolves 3: Civil War

Be wary buying this game - it's not right.
In my opinion it just isn't worth £19.99.

The game just isn't in a finished state, and the last patch for it came out 2 years ago.

The UI is very fiddly, the scripting is so bad is offensive, and the translation from Russian is awful. I mean seriously it is painful just reading the text (nothing is voiced.)

I bought this thinking it would be like Star Wolves 1, but more sandboxy. It's like Star Wolves 1, and yes there are 100 odd systems, but each one feels just as empty and pointless as the next.

Every mission is just frustratingly bad. I think it was from pretty much the first one where I had to deliver something. I was contacted by another person 1 minute into the mission, saying "Help!" and I said "No, I was told time is a factor". I then proceeded directly to the drop off point and was greeted with "OMFG YOU ARE LATE WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! I'M DOCKING YOUR WAGES YOU USELESS CLOWN" So I thought, what the fudge? I came straight here, directly. Wierd. So I reloaded and picked the option of helping the other person out, and bizarrely although it took 3 times as long the parcel delivery quest ended in the success script.

The next 5 or so quests are basically the same, and regardless if you go direct from A to B or faff around everyone says, "where have you been you useless fool, you're late." I don't know if it's common in Russia to speak so offensively to people, I'm not a particularly sensitive person, but god damn, it's a game. I don't need every npc in game to tell me I'm an idiot every mission regardless of its outcome.

Then again, saying all that....I'm still playing it. Maybe it's just the complete lack of games like this, but I find myself putting it up with all of it's flaws.

Still, it's not worth twenty quid. :p

Russians are pretty damn offensive in their every day speak.

I would agree the game isn't really worth picking up unless you get it on some kind of mega-sale. It's ridiculously easy for the vast majority of it (even on harder difficulties) and then there are missions where the enemy totally annihilates you resulting in you reloading over and over to get through 30 seconds of combat.

Play the original and skip the other two IMO.

I also tried playing this ...
"Why tried?" you may ask.
Well, after fiddling through the first few quests reloading over and over I think I got what the game expects from me and followed that path.
This worked quite well until that confrontation with the Aliens.

It turned out that I had to load a game from 3 hours ago since my equipment wasn't good enough for that encounter and there was no way to buy better equipment because every time I left the route that annoying "This was your biggest and last failure in the game" screen appeared -> Game Over.

Often there are situations which equal to (in a classic RPG sense): You open the door - the room behind is dark - you step into the room - HAHAAAAAA!!! You fall into a spike trap and die!
(NO! Your party member were not able to grab you ... and NO the wizard did NOT levitate you ... HAHAAAA!!! YOU ... ARE ... SOOOOO ... F-ING .... DEAD!!!! MUHAHAHAAAA)

Long story short: most of the time I was just annoyed because there was only THE way to play the game, which obviously is not how I liked playing it.

If there ever appears a game like Freelancer again, remind me to look back into space games.
It's on Indie Gala today for $4 lol
C= 64 Dec 2, 2012 @ 7:49am you can buy it for next to nothing here currently (steam key)

I have this number 3 from the bundle and I was considering that other bundle that has the second game in it. I'm kind of torn though...

Well if you like this game you can always try x3 albion prelude, its like this game more or less. Just way more complex and not user friendly. But its a bunch more fun to. (well for me)

It's absolutely nothing like Albion Prelude. X3 is a space flight sim, Star Wolves is a tactical/strategy game. The only thing that makes them similar is they are both in space.

Well that clears that up.

Yeah, I can't even get into it because the mouse cursor has really bad stuttering movement, it's driving me crazy. Fortunately I won it off SteamGifts so it's not that big of a deal. If I want to get something like this I think I'll grab Homeworld 2.

X3 can be either trader/sim and or military/merc type playthrough, but in beginning you are forced to do some trading until you get some funds pooled to get a better ship/stations and software.

I do have to say the scripts are somewhat annoying. However I like this game and am investing some time in it.
