Star Wolves 3: Civil War

To anyone considering purchasing this game
Hi, this is game is a true masterpiece (I am not exagerating - look at my list of games; I'd say there are very few that gave me as much pleasure). It is relatively open-world (as in, you're free to go to any system in the universe at nearly any time) put that's not the main point to it.

It's greatest value is the storyline, and the massive replayability you get from the decisions you make (there are 3-5 main storyline arcs (can't remember) and a myrriade of smaller occasional decisions you'll have to make, including mid-combat).

The ship design, ship & pilot customization, and the combat is also colossal, being very fast and tactical at the same time. Graphics are pretty cool for their day and age (and budget - the voice acting was done by the devs themselves and volunteers from the game fans' forum, for example) when this was created. The ambience and music is very rich and atmospheric.

I used to play this back a long time ago, at launch. I had DAYS of fun with it, weeks even. I discovered EVE Online afterwards and couldn't even look at it after Star Wolves 3 (called Star Wolves 2 in Russia).

The current sale price is NOTHING compared to the emotions you'll get from this.

If you like it, consider purchasing Star Wolves 1 & 2, which are invaluable for the story, but being rather old, have quite obscure graphics settings.

One important personal notice: I played this in Russian (this IS a Russian game) and it was all of the above. I haven't tried it in English and dunno how they made it, sorry.

OFFTOPIC: There would have been Star Wolves 4 (Elite Games, the dev company, actually had it finished), but the giant tyrant monygrabber publisher scrapped the project without any explanation. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HATE THEM for that, the next series would have been OP, Godlike. Alas, this is Russia. The little guy has to play by the fat school bully's rules (mind you, non of the proceeds from your Steam purchase goes to the devs AFAIK).

Why I agree with you regarding the game quality and interesting storyline, your info on Star Wolves 4 development is off the mark completely. The publisher would love to publish the new installment in the series, but Elite games disbanded because of internal dispute and the project has been canceled. The game was not finished. The developers still receive royalties for SW3 to my knowledge though (a percentage of money from every sale).

I've been considering purchasing the current IndieGala bundle that contains this game, but I've been reluctant up until this point. Your post has now completely sold me on it. Even if it turns out that I don't enjoy it as much as you, the fact that it made somebody speak about it with such enthusiasm makes me feel it's probably a game worth having in my library.
