Dude, I play since pretty much 9 months, and I am around 2-2.5k PP in skill. Very high level players play the game since it came out, that was in 2010 (most of them)

If you've chosen your character you want to play, get into training stage, learn about comboing options, and get into trial mode.

Don't take those ragequitters seriously. Cause It's sadly a part of the online gaming. :(

Everybody starts at point zero.
The important thing is that you have fun with the game.
How about joining the folks here in the topic "New player searching for training partners"?
If you are interested in the fundamental basics and advanced tactics of SFIV, then I recommend you the "SFIV Tutorial Series" from Vesper Arcade on Youtube. It's truly a amazing digital bible in motion for the SF4 series. :)

We all start as the ♥♥♥♥est player ever.

Then we start kicking ♥♥♥ by practising a lot.

Stay strong and find a sensei. xD

Check challenge mode to help you grasp your character and check out some combo videos on youtubes. Start by mastering one and go from there.

(Worked for me)

Getting wins doesn't matter as much as learning something from your mistakes and patching the holes in your play.

As Ypsilon said earlier, VesperArcade's SF4 tutorial is most likely the best place to start. Keep at it, everyone who ever got good at fighting games went through the same horrible losing streaks you are going through right now! ^^

Also learn to love Shoryuken.com. They have forums for each character and you'll find all the info you need to get going there, when it comes to character-specifics. First just focus on the fundamentals and game mechanics.

That guy must have seen your lack of skill at the game and raged hardcore (leaving) after you gave him a beating. You should feel good about it.
