If GFWL is shutting down, how does that affect SSFIV:AE?
... Will it no longer have online multiplayer?!

if they gonna force people to buy USFIV, they might as well completely remove it from steam, which is actually not unlikely.

the other option would be to port it over to steamworks which also shouldn't be a problem as they already are working on doing this with USFIV.

when I said "they might as well completely remove it..." I actually meant removing AE from steam with your suggestion in mind.

if they are going to offer ONE online version (USFIV) of the game then why should they even bother selling AE? they might actually do this as it's the perfect opportunity to make some money, just shut down AE for newcomers and only give the (forced) upgrade option to players that already own the game.

I think Ultra is going to be an update DLC for Arcade Edition, but not sure

Ultra has been officially confirmed already to ship in two flavors: An upgrade to AE, and a standalone version. Furthermore, considering Ultra will bring a number of mechanic balances, everyone will be better off playing that instead of sticking with AE. And because Ultra will phase out the existing online platform of GFWL and implement Steamworks, what happens with GFWL once Ultra drops is a non-issue.

What I want to have confirmed is what happens to those who currently own SSFIV AE and do not upgrade to this "Ultra" edition? Are we stuck with a game that requires a service that will no longer exist?

Pretty much.

we don't know yet, capcom MIGHT migrate AE to steamworks.

the thing is, financially it's in capcom's best interest NOT to migrate...if they go with the money then they will stop selling AE in steam once USFIV comes along and basically turn AE into an offline version (essentially forcing the upgrade) for people who already own the game.

offline should not be affected by this, but nothing official on that so far.

Curent GFWL live games requiring signing in to GFWL in most cases in order to start the game, some allow offline modes. I would expect at least a quick patch from devs to remove the check on startup. - If not there are sites that exist already which have patches to remove DRM.

I don't know, I'm not a console player and we didn't get the game on PC.....

What happened to Super Street Fighter IV players on console who didn't upgrade to Arcade Edition?

Consoles are unaffected. Their online platforms are entirely unrelated to the online platforms of the PC version.

But if you didn't get the AE upgrade, do so. AFAIK it's free.

SSFIV to SSFIV AE wasn't free. $15 for that, if I recall correctly.

oh and it will be totally pointless to upgrade from SSFIV to AE now, because there will be the same option to upgrade to USFIV for both SSFIV and SSFIV AE. so do yourself a favor and DON'T upgrade from SSFIV to AE, wait for USFIV and THEN upgrade.
