GFWL to close in July 2014
Microsoft is closing the Games for Windows Live service by July 2014.

The information was leaked during an Age of Empires Online announcement, which has since been taken down. Microsoft intends to sell new games in the Windows 8 integrated storefront, and few, if any older games, will make the transition. Some games will flat out stop working as they require online authorization and DRM checks and their developers/publishers are defunct.

Here's some of the titles that will be affected:

Arkham Asylum
Arkham City
Bioshock 2
Bulletstorm
Dark Souls
Dawn of War 2
Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising
Fable 3
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Street Fighter 4
Street Fighter x Tekken
Resident Evil 5
Section 8: Prejudice
World of Goo

You can find the full list below:

If left without a patch, these games will lose multiplayer features, and some will not work at all. You will no longer be able to purchase DLC for any of them, either.

I am emailing this to developers and publishers involved in the affected games, and posting it in the relevant forums. If you care about the ownership of your games, please pass this along. If you're a developer or publisher, please consider taking steps to prevent us from no longer being able to play the games we paid for.

Thank you.

Speculation? THQ is no more, the Warhammer games are not going to transfer over to GFWL.

From Software hasn't released a statement when asked about this issue, only that the next game wont use GFWL. Considering the shoddy port we got, barely functioning without mods, I would think if nobody makes their voice heard they have no reason to put forth any effort to remedy this.

Capcom, same deal as From Software.

And so on.

If you do nothing or say nothing about it, you're just passively accepting being screwed over by Microsoft and the publishers that are unwilling to ensure their customers get what they paid for.

Thanks for the post OP, it's actually a real helpful concise listing of what's to come. I'd even consider submitting this to Kotaku or something - I don't know if there is enough discussion on the end of GFWL.
