Input on modding a fighting stick.
In preparation for Ultra coming in a few months, I want to finally evolve from using a pad to fighting on a stick. I have seen a few guides online on how to create/mod your own and I want to follow that route as it seems pretty easy.

First I want to know if it’s okay to use Amazon for my shopping needs. All guides I have seen say to use this or that Japanese import site for the best items. I would rather use Amazon to build this stick unless they really don’t carry the correct parts.

First as a base I want to use the WWE All Stars Brawl Stick from Mad Catz currently at $40.

This seems like a good base as I have read it is easily modable and it is PC and PS3 compatible out of the box. This is most important to me since I would like to use this stick for MvC3 and SC5. If anyone has a better base for a cheaper price please post it.

For the buttons I will go with Sanwa OBSF-30-B set of eight for $31.
http://www.amazon.com/OBSF-30-Arcade-Tournament-Joystick-Compatible/dp/B005C5EWDO/ref=pd_bxgy_misc_img_y

Finally for the stick I was this Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK joystick at $30.
http://www.amazon.com/Sanwa-JLF-TP-8YT-SK-Adjustable-Tournament-Compatible/dp/B004CZBWF6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1376786144&sr=8-7&keywords=sanwa+stick

Finally, I only saw one site that mentioned getting an octagonal restrictor plate but I’m not sure if it’s needed as the stick already states it is 8-way adjustable. If I do need one, I would get this one at around $9.
http://www.amazon.com/Sanwa-GT-Y-Octagonal-Restrictor-Joysticks/dp/B004AU0H4U/ref=pd_bxgy_misc_img_z

The whole stick should run me about $100. From what I understand, this stick is comparable to buying a $150 stick new. I would be happy with that :)

Where can I save money?

Where can I replace parts for superior alternatives?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Why is Amazon not a good place to buy parts?

Too expensive? The wrong parts?

Sorry i should have clarified yes they are generally more expensive and do not really offer specials for shipping and its usually from the same retailer from the other websites so just go to the supplier directly like focus attack

Looking around Amazon I found this $100 Mad Catz Arcade Pro. It looks high quality with its Sanwa parts and has a great price.

Has anyone had any experience with this stick? Will it work with a PC?

That will work. The only ps3 sticks that have issues with many computers are the TE's Round 1/2 and Se's (not including the brawl stick)

If the buttons are the same on amazon as they are at other places then just get them there. That being said you can usually find better prices/shipping from smaller retailers with this sort of deal.

Don't get an 8-way gate, they are lame.

I ended up buying the HORI Real Arcade Pro V3 SA for $113 with shipping included. It also included a octonganal plate if I wanted to change it from the square. It was too good of a deal to pass up.

I still want a second stick so I can play with friends and family so I still appreciate the input. I'm leaning towards my original idea and modding a cheap stick if only to have the opportunity to tinker and customize.

Whats wrong with the octogonal plate? I thought it was the Japanese standard.
