Recording software: Choices?
I've been trying to record a couple of my more decent replays for a few days now, but sadly, OBS gets a black screen, some other free solution out there wants to force me to play windowed, and Fraps eats my resources and drops the game to anywhere between 30-45fps.

I don't think my machine's specs are THAT crappy (i5 @ 2.67GHz, 8GB DDR3 PC-10700 RAM, 1GB DDR3 dedicated GeForce GT 610M laptop), so can anybody here recommend some decent software I can use to make fullscreen video captures of my game? I'd very much appreciate it.

The game saves some of your fights so you could try record the replay with fraps . Other recording software i remember right now is gamecam , wegame , xsplit...
I know about the game saving fights, that's exactly why I want to record them -- I want to share via YouTube some of the most fun fight replays I've saved from fighting online.

I'll try GameCam and XSplit.

You have a Mobile video card.

You will not be streaming live. That leaves you with trying to record after the fact. Other than reducing your resolution down to the tiniest you can bear, I'm not sure if there is much else you can do to reduce the load.

Xsplit and OBS are about the same in resources as I've been told, so I wouldn't count on anything spectacular coming from that front. To top it off, xsplit wont allow you to record directly from a game unless you pay - you can only define a screen region for it to record, and by definition this comes with overhead that would make your machine work harder.

Fraps, if you're recording, should be recording at 30fps half-size. This isn't ideal but it sound like your machine is going to struggle through this no matter what.

As for finding ways to improve your machine, the only thing I can really see is that tiny video card. Any Mobility card is going to be.... bad. You might be able to play games on them, but it's only barely - and any additional overhead on them is going to be real rough.

I would give OBS another shot, as you shouldn't be getting a black screen. If you are capturing right from the game itself, the video will not show up unless the game is in the foreground - which makes it hard to preview your work. I don't know if this is the case or not but I would give it a shot, try hitting "Start/Record" and then bringing SF4 into the foreground.

doc> Thanks for the input, mate.

Yeah, I know I have a mobile graphics card, and I also know it's not the best, but I didn't think it'd struggle this much trying to record.

Those are my current graphics settings. Plus, in order to reduce the train on the main HDD, I'm recording to an external USB3.0 1TB 7200rpm drive. What can you suggest to improve my recording experience? Because I REALLY want to get a few vids up, y'know.

I use fraps and have good results...

Your frame rate will cap to 30 but most of youtube videos run on 30fps...

How the match look using fraps:

You could try Razer GameBooster. It's free and has recording amongst other functions. So does Raptr iir, at the very least it broadcasts to Twitch, which saves a recorded copy.

How good is that Razer GameBooster compared to fraps?

Edit: Researching about Razer Game Booster i found this:
Nvidia Shadow Play

I don't do recording, you'll have to try it out. It seems imilar to MSI or FRAPS in function though, not sure about quality.

Hm... Hopefully they'll come out with that Shadowplay thing soon... Sounds real good and I happen to have a 600-series card...

Yeah--just save the replay on the replay channel.
