This game would be amazing with Steam workshop. So exciting, I'll pay at least $1000 bucks for a sf4 without gfwl.

They're ditching games for Windows Live? ♥♥♥♥ YES, I must get this.

Mmm... Poison.

You do realise it's just Arcade Edition with 5 characters and a patch, right? And that you can buy it for exisiting copies, which obviously use GFWL?
BrandeX Jul 15, 2013 @ 3:03am
Using Steamworks servers/matchmaking instead of GFWL eh?

Because that is working for ♥♥♥♥ with Mortal Kombat right now.

I agree with the above post, there is a standalone version ("Ultra") and an upgrade for Arcade Edition which is registered and runs through GFWL. Players wouldn't be able to play each other. At the very least if the update removes gfwl and switches to Steamworks, anyone who doesn't buy this character and stage DLC pack would no longer be able to play online with those who did.

Just to confirm, if a game has the "Steam powered" logo does that mean it has to have Steamworks integration? So we can expect Steam achievements, Steamworks multiplayer and everything else that goes along with it?
SHREDDER Jul 15, 2013 @ 3:46am
Yes, that what it means. it will use steamworks for multiplayer and it will use of steam features(steam achivements, big pciture mode, workshop, trading cards, et.c.)

I'm in love. I was highly critical of the $14.99 upgrade price for four "new" characters and one truly new character but if it gets rid of GFWL then HELL YEAH!

It is not steam fault. It is the developer fault that they did not fix the netcode problems that the game had for so long. They used the same netcode that the console versionns were using. It is their fault. SSF4 AE PC, on the other hand has a perfect netcode, i live in greece and i have a 24 connection and i can play with evryone from all over the world with no lag. They will use Steamworks because capcom stopped supporting GFWL this year, that why they are going for steamworks.

Awesome news. I will gladly purchase the game then, thank you Capcom.

Just for clarification, the netcode on consoles for MK9 is even worse than the PC netcode. I can have almost non laggy matches on PC via private matches with a friend of mine.

It's up the devs what they do with the netcode.
