Non steam edition
I bought ssf4 off of amazon awhile ago and it is not on steam, is there a way to bring it on to steam when gfwl goes away or will I have to buy it again?

We don't know. Capcom has not commented on what it plans to do with AE once GFWL goes offline. Anyone saying otherwise does not have an official source and will not be able to provide links to Capcom's statement unless something very recent has been announced.

Well, what we know so far, is that:
- USF4 is going to be on Steamworks
- AE Steam users will be able to upgrade

We don't know what will happen to nonsteam AE users, and what will happen to AE in general.

I've talked to Capcom costumer support a few times now, and to the XBox support (GfWL support), but the replies are always the same. They have no official position as to what will happen to your games, if you can still play them, etc.

The only thing they told me is that your achievements remain with your account.

When they do the conversion to make AE Steamworks you will be able to enter your retail key into steam to claim the game.

wbacon [capcom]: Speaking of which, SSF4AE should become patched in the coming months in preparation for Ultra
wbacon [capcom]: going full steamworks
darksamus: Ah sweet
darksamus: You should post it in the forums
darksamus: No-one believes me there when I tell them its receiving the GFWL switch to steam
darksamus: At least one guy even reckons Capcom will just abandon SSF4AE and make everyone by Ultra on steam
wbacon [capcom]: the funny thing is it was publicly announced that SSF4AE will be patched before Ultra hits the street
wbacon [capcom]: it seems to have glossed over a lot of people's heads

I must admit that I haven't seen any public announcement about it either.
Next time I talk to him I'll ask for a link to somewhere Capcom announced it.

It's not like this is the first time I have had news for this game and people have initially doubted me...

Everyone will doubt you as long as we don't see this information coming actually from Capcom.

You must admit I have good reason to not have such fears seems I have it directly from a Capcom employee, but I'm sure if you spend 5 minutes on Google you'll probably find the announcement he is refering to.

I'm stuffed if I know where it's been said, but I can only go by his word given to me that something public was announced about it.

You can't find it because it doesn't exist. What they will do is anyone's guess.

Finally got around to talking to wbacon again and asked him for more info for you guys...
darksamus: You said that it was announced publicly Capcoms plans for SSF4AE but myself and noone else can find any source
darksamus: You got a link that confirms it so I can shut some mouths in the SSF4AE forums?
wbacon [capcom]: it was an implied announcement
wbacon [capcom]: that users of SSF4AE GFWL will be able to upgrade straight to Ultra
wbacon [capcom]: Ultra is a pure Steamworks title. No GFWL
darksamus: ah ok
darksamus: doesn't really give me ammo for the doubters sadly
wbacon [capcom]: SO GFWL will be stripped out, replaced with with similar Steamworks features, Achievements and all
darksamus: sounds fair, I think Capcom need to make a more direct announcement
wbacon [capcom]: yeah, something for PR to deal with for sure.
darksamus: indeed
wbacon [capcom]: I think it'll be more direct as Ultra release nears

Hopefully PR will get onto this asap so everyone is fully informed with exactly what will happen

I just thought of another possibility. Capcom may release the GFWL -> Steam patch for AE, but may delay its release to coincide with the release of Ultra.

This is just conjecture. There's no reason that leads me to believe that they'll do this, I'm simply rolling around the possibility. If they did take this course of action then PC AE would be offline between the months of July and August, or whenever they eventually release the PC version.

Didn't they originally plan to release the PC version at the same time as the console versions? I seem to recall that this was the original announcement.

Yeah, official release announcement for Ultra included a August release date.

It will be available as a $15.00 DLC update for consoles in early June.

Retail on consoles and Steam will get the update in August...

Also of note there is that the announcement at that link does say that you'll be able to upgrade the game on steam.

and people who don't already own the game on steam can buy Ultra for $30 and get all the previously downloaded costumes.

Hm yeah, I was thinking that they originally announced a simultaneous release, but I'm probably just remembeing sideways.
LDVergil Apr 30, 2014 @ 10:57am
Didnt bother to look at anyones post but regardless of what version you have now. YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY THE UPDATE!! THERE ARE NO FREE ULTRA EDITION!!!!!!!!! it aint that hard to figure out.
