Not if it's at the expense of even part of the functionality of games that I've paid for.

You should care, especially when it comes to Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2 Off The Record as they both use Zero Day Piracy Protection (ZDPP) so when GFWL is shut down neither game will activate, which you need to do everytime you install them before you're allowed to launch them.

So if Capcom does nothing they will both become virtual paperweights.

My thoughts.

You are not thinking in long term. Too many good games can be put to absolute death. Not even local profile will allow any play - that's why migration is so important.

Look at the quote below.

He cares. I care. You should. You own a game afterall right? Some games will be totally useless. Those are still good games. Old, but look, sound and play good.
Your attitude is indifferent and you agree to game killing practices.

Actually, that's incorrect. Dead Rising 2 can't be installed without accessing GFWL, however Dead Rising 2: Off The Record can be.

DS2:OTR when installed will install the GFWL client, but when you run the game you can go straight to using a Local Profile (ie working offline) and play the campaign solo (both campaign and sandbox mode). It does not require a connection to GFWL to do this - it only needs a connection if you want to play the game with other people.

So when GFWL dies... Dead Rising 2 is done for, but Off The Record will still be playable - I know, I just tested this... downloadede both games, disconnected my internet and installed them both... DR2 would not work because it requires a connection to GFWL to 'verify version number' before you can play it, while DR2:OTR worked without a problem (going straight to Local Profile).

Note - if you have Dead Rising 2 already installed on your computer (and ran it at least once to clear it past the GFWL version check thing), it is also playable on a Local Profile. So it can be played offline once GFWL dies, you just have had to have installed it prior to GFWL server's being shut down.

And how long will you keep your OS installation alive? This one game dies for good then at some point. Who knows how many more will share the same fate. It's already too many.

No, what I said is correct, both Dead Rising 2 and Off The Record use ZDPP (which like I said above means they have to be activated/verified before you're allowed to launch them) as I've tested them myself. It even says so on here:

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of_Games_for_Windows_-_LIVE_games

EDIT: Just tested the Steam version of Off The Record again and it seems it no longer uses ZDPP. Dead Rising 2 still uses it though so that will become a virtual paperweight when GFWL is shutdown unless Capcom does something.

That site is incorrect. I just tested it - had no GFWL installed with a clean registry, downloaded Dead Rising 2: Off The Record via Steam (but did not play it), unplugged my modem so I was offline, then clicked "Play" for DR2:OTR - and guess what happened? The game went through its "Run for the first time" routine, including installing the GFWL client, and once installed the game started up and then asked me to log into a GFWL account to play... I created a Local Account and was able to play.

DR2:OFT might have used ZDPP at some point, but the current version that gets downloaded from steam does not have it and can be installed and played without needing to have an active GFWL account/connection.

Don't always blindly believe what sites say - especially wiki's, as they rely on the person posting them to actually know what the hell they are talking about.

But... I paid for it. Regardless of whether I have the desire to play it or not, I should, at the very least, be able to, seeing as I've given it's publisher my money with the express intent of doing so.

Lots of people still play it, just look at the screenshots page of this community hub and sort by most recent. And that doesn't even include the people who have retail versions and versions bought from other digital services.
