I prefer keyboard since it's easier for me to do certain things compared to a controller (e.g move & style switch, back to forward stick inputs that are typing 'swi' or 'swik' on keyboard).
Thing is, if your keyboard doesn't register all inputs when you hold some conbination of 3 keys, it's likely unsuitable for this game. You can check for any ignored combinations here:
http://www.microsoft.com/appliedsciences/antighostingexplained.mspx
Check by holding down Space, but with some combinations of presses on two of WASD, and at least one of IJKL.
[However, you can't walk with a keyboard, and you'd likely find a better place to rebind Camera controls from arrow keys (imo TFGH is a convenient spot)]
I'm using Xbox 360 controller, the problem is when I press the joystick all the way to the left, randomly it won't register that direction as being pushed all the way, so the character is walking instead of running. It will mess you up during important moments in key fights like bosses.
So far have not found any fix, tried installing 360 drivers but nothing not even re-calibrating it.
Next time i play it, i will check that.
Just now, I found a topic about it also:

Hmm interesting. Tempeted to log other pc to try it now. In fact i am. I will report back shortly.
imputs like forward, backward + atack are far more easier to pull out in every situation
Hey, your issue is because DMC 4 has a rather sensitive config for gamepad analogs. For example, my new 360 gamepads analog was perfect in every way, except it was registering "forward" motion on left analog like 1 pixel short when I monitored it on Windows calibration. DMC 4 was the only game that gave me issues for that. The game will notice even the miniscule defects on your pad. I've had no such issues with any other game I've tried.
Anyway, check your analogs on windows calibration screen, your analog may probably have a little defect when pushing left. It won't cause any issues in any other games, BUT DMC 4 WILL NOTICE !
Dunno if it's fixable through game configs. You can probably bind left to your analog X axis in Xpadder and do a little hybrid config that way.
I'm using Joy2Key, theres a button that says "Stick 1: <-".
Bind the letter A to it and voila! The game has WASD binded for movement, so A would be left. Do the same thing for any other directions you are having problems. After that do use the Dpad for navigating the menus.
Whenever I use the left directions of my 360 joystick he never walks, awesome.
