Company of Heroes (New Steam Version) Explained (for newbies).

As you may all have heard, our beloved THQ has bankrupted and Sega has outbid every other company for Relic, Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War along with it. The servers on which we played on were old ones (which THQ rented) and they were shut down because of this. Relic have moved to the new steamworks servers to countinue support for the game (plus that CoH 2 will run on the same servers), we don't know if there will be any further updates but you will have to add your product keys to steam so you can get access to the new Steam Version of the game, if you forgot them/lost the disk, go on the Company of Heroes official site and go to the CoH section (not the CoH 2 one), there will be a topic stickied about this, there just follow the instructions, if you already don't know where your disk/s is/are and have't wrote your product keys anywhere just go to this link: http://cohtool.sega.co.uk (sometimes it won't work but keep trying, it worked for me on the 3rd try). You will have to download the new Steam Version to continue to play on the new steamworks server, YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO DOWNLOAD THE OLD VERSIONS OF THE GAME. When you put in your codes you will get 4 new games added to your game library (if you have bought it on steam it will automatically add the new steam version), just download the new steam version, if you have the Opposing Fronts Expansion and the Tales of Valor one, they will be counted as DLCs to the game, you can check them by right clicking the game and pressing properties, then going to the DLC section. The game (with or without the Expansions, again counted as DLCs) is about 9 gigabytes of memory so you will need some room on your Hard drive and a good internet connection (wireless *might* work but keep in mind it will be slowish, and don't even bother trying with an internet flash drive). If you try to access your old Account on the game you won't be able to because it will require you to validate your media. Relic haven't said if they will update the game but we are hoping they do because at the moment there are a number of bugs needed to be fixed however, it's not something we cannot live with, better bugs than no CoH at all, right? downloaded the steam version, it have a update required but after downloading I got the error message that its already updated, therefore can't play it at all.

Hold up, you mean to tell me you can't play because it told you that you should update but it says it's already updated?

yes I have the retail version but have to download steam version due to their migration for steam servers, I have the game in my library, downloaded it but upon launch there is an info that i need to download a patch in order to play, so I download it and during the applying process I got error message that the patch is already applied, but I get the message about impeding patch needed again once I load the game... so its an infinite loop. The patch that is being downlaoded is 2.602

Have you tried to download and apply the patch manually or to re-install the whole game?

I removed the local coh files through steam and re-downloaded the whole thing again, same result ;/ I might try to remove it again and try to update manually I just gave up after the second fail attempt. I've also copied my retail coh files into steam directory since my retail version is working just fine from another destination but nothing changes still want to apply a patch thats already applied. Repairing the game have downloaded several (like 18 files) but the same problem still persist ;0

I have downloded all 3 COH from steam... stil cannot plsy on line... please help a COH junkie!!!

You need to simply put the cd keys which you probably did. And download ONLY THE NEW STEAM VERSION. That brings all three games. That is it, just download the new steam version.

I did download all 3 games from steam. But when I click on COH steam version, after the debut credit, it still asks me to insert cd... The game comes on line but cannot sign in. I erased the THQ versions from my computer, still does not work!

Will they ever update the buggy coh steam version which looks more like the BETA to me lol?
