It has taken me over 500 hours to write this review.
Not because I can only type with one finger but because this is one of the best games ever and I could not stop playing it.
If you are serious about playing a "Diablo Clone" that gives you an appreciation of our own history.. read on.
Diablo, FATE, Torchlight, Din's Curse - they don't come close.
The game was released almost 10 YEARS AGO and we still have a decent forum active and discussing the merits of the Juggernaut versus the Conqueror (shrug - don't ask me - http://www.titanquest.net/)
These type of games are easy to get into - but very hard to stop. There is no complexity here. Load up and move, click, click and click. Loot. Move on. Level up. Easy as Pie. You must have the Immortal Throne expansion though.
The environment is beautifully crafted - you just want to zoom in and see the detail. Then whack! A gang of dragons are on top of you - help! Zoom out.
The three realms of ancient Greece, Egypt and Babylon and the Orient are so well crafted. Makes you believe it for sure. The first time I walked along the Great Wall of China I was amazed - second and third time as well. Exploring the Egyptian delta and fighting off killer crocodiles was pretty neat too. The music is different in each region and really well done - it's evocative. These developers should be proud of this masterpiece.
Your character - so many different combinations, on each level up you can add stats according to how you want to play. Fighter, Archer or Summoner or something else. Forget the stats though - the key to this game is the various classes and how two of them can be combined. Believe me - no matter what you go with and how you progress - that feeling that you could do better or be more efficient will never go away.
After a while you won't be able to stop asking yourself questions.
What if I put all my stats in health - would I become invincible?
What about sticking everything into dexterity - is there some theoretical number that will ensure I never get hit?
100% immunity from Magic?
How many turtle shells combined with this set of armour and that class means infinite blocking ability?
Just play the game and enjoy it and experiment - I guarantee you will want to try a bunch of different approaches.
The loot - the addiction. Always looking to equip the 'next' one. You will find yourselves farming certain regions for relics or unique items.
The game works fine for me under three different home PCs with Windows 7 and 8. No crashes.
If you are serious about playing a "Diablo Clone" that does not have cartoon graphics but also gives you an appreciation of our own history along the way TQ IT is head and shoulders above the competition.
Negatives? Yep - it's a Diablo Clone so don't expect a lot of strategy. Keep your left hand on the "1" key to gulp down any health potions just in case. Enable the loot text so you can see the magical items.
Oh - and I thought the Gorgons would be tougher. The final boss was naff.
