What do I have to do to get a reasonable score on River Runner?
I feel like I'm completely missing something because I can't seem to get over 500-1,000 points on River Runner. I've never even seen one of the radar shields or whatever the other non-boat and non-turret things are. Can someone that is putting up the 3,000-5,000 scores shed a little light on the strategy that I'm missing? I would say that half the fun is figuring it out, but I can't seem to get anywhere. Thanks!

Would love to know also. Best score I have is a little over 1600. Most of the time it is under 1,000 and that is with the upgrade to the guided missles. Just keep running out of fuel. Tried lowering the resistance to try and increase speed and started going over some of the hills instesd of following river the whole way, but still not getting much over 1,000.

I only found out about the guided missles yesterday when I came here looking for help. But, others were saying that they don't use them and still put up big numbers.

I tweeted a link to this thread from the VirZOOM Twitter account in the hopes we'll get some expert opinions in here. I should also note that we recently tweaked difficulty by making fuel cans more scarce. I know some of the top scores came from taking it REALLY slowly, on really low resistance – but it's supposed to be a workout, right?

One tip I would offer is that you shouldn't necessarily feel the need to shoot every single turret. Enemies get more densely packed the longer you play, so if you kind of breeze through the early part, you'll have more targets soon (and eventually so many targets you probably won't be able to target them all even if you wanted).

My top 3 River Run tips:

1. Head directly for fuel and pedal fast throughout (or you'll run out)
2. Destroy turrets ahead of you first (they're more likely to hit you)
3. Follow me @robkaySF on twitter for a secret cheat (only kidding)

I'm a little jealous of Rob that I didn't think to use this as a way to sneakily get Twitter followers. That's the kind of clever thinking that gets you named Lead Game Designer. ;)

Also, one controversial opinion I'd love to see an expert shoot down (ha ha): You CAN use the left trigger to hover and only move vertically, but you probably SHOULDN'T except in extreme circumstances (e.g., you need to duck behind something and then climb over it fast because otherwise you'll take too much fire). Forward movement is usually best!

Yeah, true enough - hover is gonna slow you down getting to fuel, so best used judiciously. I use it vs gunboats sometimes, to stay back from their antiaircraft fire while I take 'em out. But otherwise best to keep moving.

Il am old school and don't tweet. Barely use Facebook.
OK, I'm counting on you guys for the new high score! I'll give it a spin tonight (see what I did there?) and see how it goes. Thanks!

Got a little over 1800. Best I could do this round.

Just invited. You should know me and hate hearing from me as a result of all the communication regarding the speed issues.

Sent requess to both through Virzoom.
Man still don't see how folks are getting scores in the 15-25k range. Best I can do is about 5k.
