GTL Driving guides
I've played other Sim racing games but with GTL I'm a bit clueless regarding driving itself so I did a bit of search on the net.

First, I found this 3 pdfs, where one of the devs gives some info and tips on, I think, all the cars on the game.

Then, there's also this really sweet and more specific guide covering the basics of driving and more advanced stuff, ways of taking the corners, etc:

THe PDFs were available on the official GTL web site and are written by a racing driver who helped develop the game, not a dev.
If it's good racing driver tips your after try to find books or DVDs by Skip Barber who runs the american racing driver school at Lime Rock Park, USA.

For me the best learning was, turn off all driving aids and progress through the chapmionship, starting at slowest AI. This way you have a chance of winning, so you're motivated and the difficulty of handling gradually increases with the stronger cars later. Once you finish the career, increase the difficulty and start again :)

Yep, I'd agree with that. But I would start with every aid turned off (except Auto-Clutch) and see how you get on.

dont forget those cars are ooooold. that means ♥♥♥♥♥♥ brakes, tires and line holding :D
auto-clutch on costs you time. its shifts without using the clutch nicely, only on down shifting you have to be carefull not to lock the wheels and spin...

I think you mean auto gears not auto clutch

i mean auto-clutch :). without it, its shifts much faster. just try it.

I do and have never had wheel lock?

I read somewhere a guy that uses manual clutch, and he swifts gear without it, he only uses it at the begining of a race.

well you want lock the wheells on the mini, but the gt-40 or pantera will show you. there is still a posibility that the auto blip is on in the config file or have a natural talent for it. :)

Electre: as there is no damage simulated to the clutch gtl/gtr2/rfactor too i think ( well i never experienced it) , you cant break it or the gearbox. you can shift without using clutch. i also use clutch only on race starts.
