How do i get more passengers for planes?

Over several months since i started up a Airline i havent had any passengers and was making a loss lucky for me i was able to cover the loss and keep it running. After several months i did start to pick up one passenger at one airport and several passengers at the other end. I have buses running from town to the Airport but most of the passengers take the bus to the Airport and wait at the bus stop for another bus back to town instead of going to the Airport. Does it take several years to build up passengers for the Airline and what more can i do to attract more?

i would imagine you have the initial slow start but i am 20 years into my current game that is making profits but i am not even thinking about an airline yet. I think you would need at least two towns with good transport to them being used and decent land values and supplies. Once my shops and jobs go up people start travelling to my towns. I cant confirm but i think the airlines are best used much later in the game.

Same problem here.
When the cities have more than 1500 hab, some people uses airlines.

maybe the land values are not high enough and people cant afford the airlines. maybe focus on supplying your towns with the products they require to raise land values and see what happens. I will have a play later and see if i can get it to work.

Ok thanks, this is full of good thought. But some players don't seems to have any issues with airlines. I think we need a "how to guide" or "how it works guide" made by the staff, cause it seems little too hazardous for me right now.

I searched for this thread because my planes weren't getting any passengers either. But after several trips with no one aboard, my plane just picked up four.

I guess it's just slow. I wish they'd up the stats for passengers wanting to fly. I'm playing on easy, and I just want it to be easy until I figure out the game better.

But it's very cool to watch the planes from the cockpit view! It's a very good job they did on making it feel like flying.

I haven't played in sandbox mode yet only done the Campaign but in EU 5 you have to setup profitable airlines which worked for me (I'm not sure over what time perdiod but it does take years). I have over a 100 passengers waiting at an airport (for 2 lines).

I did notice one line not working because I had only 1 plane on it which took more than 20min so Im assuming that rule from Train Fever is still somehow applied. As soon as I added a 2nd plane people started showing up.

I just finished with mission 5 and6 USA map where I set up air routes. Ai needs a reason to travel; if you click on any waiting passenger it will say home, work, shop. AIrports have small catch areas and are quite big so can't be placed close to a city

I just had 3 bus stops bringing people to and from the airport and going for commercial and industry before I put the 4th bus stop next to the train station the 6 USA mission wants you to set up

I try to place my airport as close as possible to my trainstation in a city, and a bushub. the bus picks people up, transports em to the hub. there they will decide whether it's cheaper to take the plane or the train, depending on the time it takes. if you have 2 neighbouring towns that have a straight train and plane connection, they wil generally take the train cause it is cheaper, and probably faster.
Would you take a plane, where it takes 1-2 hours to check in before you can board, then fly 20 minutes, land, wait for your luggage and pay 100 currency, while the train takes 1 hour to get there and only costs 50 currency, and you can keep your luggage with you at all times?

Airports are not worth using to serve just one city. Consider it a central transport hub linking, say, 3 cities to another 3 at the other end of the map. That's what I always do, put the airport in the middle of 3 cities and give it direct rail links to those 3 cities, then do the same for the airport on the other end of the map.
Just keep in mind that passengers can choose between fast and cheap transport lines. Those choosing cheap will likely never use aircraft unless they had absolutely no other choice (they could even go so far as buying a car and using that instead of your planes). Airlines have a lower market than other forms of transport, don't expect it to be your most profitable form of transport.

Hi !

Nice tips killakanz. That work for me. Made two hub on a 1:3 medium map. One north, one south (all the north cities linked to the north hub with bus and trains, same to the south). Made one line of bus and train between the two hubs and one airline. Starting in 1900, now 1970 and the airline work just fine. Didn't make a lot of cash with it, but at least my planes are not empty !

My guess (and it's only a guess) is that passenger demand for aircraft is related to Commercial and Industrial Demand!. If there are no jobs there, no goods or food in the shops why would you go there?!. Even if you go for Leisure you are going to need somewhere to eat!. So I think that Commercial and Industrial needs will have to be met to attract wealthy Aircraft Passengers!.Can anyone confirm this?!. In the promo video an Airport is built halfway between two cities so does that mean the demands of both cities influence the Passenger Demand for the Airport?!. This game is a lot deeper than meets the eye at first sight!.

what i do is either i build it very close to the town or i use one airport for 2-3 towns. You have to connect it properly so that the passengers wont be using the buses. At the moment i have several lines each running with at least 3 757.s and they are full all the time
