No cockpit forced me to cancel my preorder... Seems like I should continue to hold off.
This is coming from someone with over 700 hours in iRacing, has played rFactor, GT, Forza, has all of the DiRT games *outside of showdown* played GRID 1 & 2 for over 100 hours each. and numerous other racing games and along with a YT pretty much dedicated to the racing games I play.
Is it worth getting because it's a break from the sim racing games you've played? I already have arcade racers to play that are really good.
If this is just good because it's a break from your sim racers, let me know. I already have those. :) I want to know if this is good enough of an "arcade sim" to hold my attention. If it's need for speed, I don't want it. I already have that and it likely has more features. lol
No I have other arcade racers I enjoy.
And personally Dirt 1-3 and GRID are not sims, neither is Forza or Gran Turismo, I consider those all arcade games compared to iracing/rFactor/Race series by simbin.
But I also play Flat out, Need for Speed hot pursuit *I really love this* Shift, and other games.
Its a fun game and well worth getting.
I just wish codebashers would get back to TOCA.
I personally would love a new TOCA game, but its not going to happen.
If you consider GRID 1 simcade, then this would be a higher simcade game, far more grip then slip which GRID 1 was all about slip.
In Grid 2, 90% of the cars are garbage. Like German cars other than VW/Audi? Sorry, all garbage. Like Japanses cars? Garbage beyond the starter tier. The drift game is just bad (not that it was greatin Grid 1, but this is far worse). Most of the rear-engined cars are so eager to swap ends that you can't enjoy pushing them.
There are some cool cars in Grid 2, but either the physics engine or the car setups (that you can't change) has problems, so 90% of them aren't fun. There was obviously no effort made to make all the cars in a class competitive.
The tracks also get old fast. They would have been a good additon to all the Grid 1 tracks - the combination of both would have been awesome.
I cannot vouch for Shift 2, since it felt broken in different way than Grid 2 but on same scale.
So what you are left with? Colin McRae Dirt 2, Grid 1, old Tocas, Races, or wait till christmas or next year for Project Cars.
The car choice is aweful. There's not a lot of interesting low end cars.
The multiplayer is neat and plays more like Forza than the campaign.
It's better than Shift and Shift 2. Bumping into a car in Shift 2 will basically end the race for you, the physics are horrible there.
The story isn't interesting, I wish it had a bit more spike like the Need for Speeds.
It's not as good as Dirt 1, but I truly hated Dirt 2.
If you are looking for a new racing game because you're bored with what you have, it's fun but I'd wait for another sale.
If you are looking for something more like Forza, I'd avoid. There's no customization in Single player.
If you are looking for something that's more of a Sim, I'd also avoid.
