What do people think about the drift races?
I think they are pointless and boring.
What I loved from Grid was that I could atleast chain up the drifts, but here the second your car is lined up (going straight) the timer stops. And those thing (my english suck) you suppos to drift close to are you placed at some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ place where you more often then not dont have all that much speed to begin with.

But, I would like to keep and open mind and be learned how to drift and have fun at the same time, because the way it is now (for me) it's boring as all hell.

Hmmn. I'm not sure if you are just poor at drifting or if you just don't like it...

Drifting was new to me in the UK in Dirt 3 (gymkhana events) and although I can see now it was implemented very well even though it was impossible to avoid in the career - I can now handle it far better being in-game but rather it wasn't there - if all that made sense. It smacks too much to me of American style 'events' and opposed to UK style 'racing'

There is a lot of technique and skill required to drift well and even though I cannot by any stretch of the imagination call myself an expert I have enjoyed it in G2 just because I have had to. It is very challenging to do well.

If you don't like it then thats is different altogether than just being poor at it and complaining it isn't well implemented. Like I say I'm unsure as to the angle you are coming from.

Don't know if its long or not, but my longest drift is 199m. But then again it doesnt matter all that much in drifting races. Maybe I just pick a stupid car or I just have to practise more.

During regular races I have fun drifting through turns, but when it comes to drift races and points I suddenly suck. Even tho Ive finshised all drift races and Im now at Season 5 (ofc I have finished at #1 at every races).

The only dedicated drift event I think I have played so far was the one from RaceNet where you won the Aston Martin Vanquish (was it the Vanquish?) I came second. I was happy enough with that. Anyt excuse to race/play at Brands Hatch which is my all time favorite circuit.

It's fun... In a rear wheel drive car, just let off the throttle or brake lightly before a turn to shift the weight forward, crank the wheel and mash the gas, then feather off the gas while you counter steer until you straigten out after the drift then mash the gas again to the next corner!
You can drift a 4wd or fwd car too by letting off the throttle and popping the ebrake while cranking the wheel followed by mashing the gas to drift. Again, countersteer and feather off the gas until you straighten out.

oh yeah, and drift by the orange markers/cones for a point bonus.

His complaint, and I agree with it, is that the orange markers are placed in odd places where you're going barely fast enough to initiate a drift, or at awkward places/corners. After that, it's a long stretch until the next turn, like in the Japan and USA tracks, where you drive in a straight for a few seconds. In GRID 1, I remember chaining like 4-8 drifts together, because the tracks were purpose built for it, I guess, which felt a lot more satisfying.

Picked a big American muscle car and it went a bit better tbh... But my "complaint" still stand, I would looovee to be able to link up drifts.

not as good and i'm in the top ten for drifting
nutcrackr Jun 11, 2013 @ 3:26am
hate it, playing on hard and drifts were the first race type that required me to restart about 6 times to get enough points. They even have drift assist like dirt 3 with gymkhana. Some markers are on corners you really need to be driving stupidly to get drifts on. My big complaint is that cars are too close to each other. Crashed into cars ahead and had cars crash into me from behind a few times. Annoying.

Honestly the whole driving experience of this game is so god awful I'm finally compelled to write a comment on this discussion. I think what annoys me the most is that they insist this "Truefeel" (further referred to as TrueShit) driving technology is perfect and doesn't need to be tweaked. It's fkn annoying when every "drift" listed vehicle is actually just a low traction car on ♥♥♥♥♥♥ compound tires without an LSD. Codemasters...please consult actual drifters and visit a D1GP or Formula D event. The only half decent "drift" cars in this game are the few in tier 4 since you can actually use the power-over technique and initiate early enough with high speed to maintain a long slide with good angle. Also, please place clipping points in proper fkn spots at corner entry and exit....long slides should have a fkn outside clipping point....not an inside..otherwise you'll never make the full rotation since you'll sacrifice angle to reach it.

And for fk's sake fix the suspension geometry on the so called "drift" classified vehicles

I can never get over 250,000 points in online so do not play drift because there is always 1 or 2 which gets over 300,000 when it is said, I think it's very funny
