Driving Force GT some Q's

I'm thinking of getting a Driving Force GT, seem to be best value of the available wheels.

But I've found two versions of it, anyone know what has changed in the newer version?

Does it work well with GRID2?

How well does the clamp work?
My desk is only about a centimeter thick and glass, would that be a problem?

Anything else I should know? :-)

i just got one and unaware of their bein 2 different types, i got it cheap off gumtree. it is awesome. totally changes the way i look at race games.

i have given grid2 about 2 hours with it but find it to be unplayable, grid one is decent enough with it. dirt3 is a dream and so is nfs shift 2. to be honest i would mess with the settins more but the fact there is no cockpit cam has killed it for me.

the clamps are great i have made a strange little setup for mine...but i have a very small under the stairs pc setup which makes space a commodity. if it is too thin if you put a little piece of wood or somethin it will work grand.

the best thing is it has got my fiance interested in video games.

all in all, i highly recommend, it is an awesome device and can be found quite cheap with a little lookin around - BUT - so far it is not worth it for GRID2. people have been puttin up different settins but i plain can't be bothered. DIRT3 for rally and NFS shift 2 for street racin and i am happy so far.

I'm using the Logitech Driving force GT for Grid 2 and I absolutly love it, Was a bit tricky to find the right settings fitting for me but once I did holy crap, I can't see myself playing this game without it!

I play with a driving force GT and I have had no problems whatsoever, only thing I have changed from the standard settings is my handbrake button and my look back button, I do have my windows driver settings set up at 200 degs though rather than the full 900 as on 900 I tend to try and rip my desk up off the floor on a sharp bend lol :)

I think I'll go for it.
Just hope it will work fine for GRID2 also since it's my prefered game for now, but I do plan to use it for Shift, Dirt and NFS too.

Noone know what they have changed in the new release other then the box and price ( some €30 more expensive).

@Lomax @Troxie have you had yours for long?

Just trying to figure out if those that have problem have a different version then those that have it working fine.

Turn down the force feedback in game to 30-70-40. Change wheel rotation to somewhere between 240 - 360 degrees of rotation in profiler. Everything else default. Works for me.

I am using the Driving Force GT in Grid 2 as well and I love it. I play at 299° and i have set the force feedback just like Brandon. Ah and I removed the stearing deadzone and the linearity is set to 0.

I have a glass table too, about 1 cm thick. The clamps work perfectly on it.

As I said from the start at least two different store have what appears to be the same wheel at two different prices?

can't see any difference in them...maybe one comes with gt5 or somethin? i don't know it is all double dutch to me that page (sorry...a very bad joke)

will try those settins you have posted folks...maybe i will find some joy to this game yet. but still, i don;t understand why they just didn;t have them handle the same as GRID. it makes no sense to me

Yerhhh I have a GT Driving Force. Never seen a new version. Good wheel Force feedback due to being powered by a motor can make correction in game a bit tough. Let me try to explain. Feedback is created through a geared motor at back of wheel inside the device. If this is set high or even medium it sometimes prevents you correcting over steer unless you have arms like Popeye. It is a Very good wheel though and totally changes all good driving games. Great in F1 too. Shifters on the back are a little small and basic, and the stick shifter at the side is best used as a handbrake really. Even though designed mainly for Playstation the Red dial and interesting sets of switches make it very usable on P.C. Happy racing.

I picked up a Driving Force GT and it seems to be working fine.
But darn is it harder to drive then with a controller. ;-)

Much better steering precision but much much harder to control when the rear end loose grip.
But I've only tried a couple of runs so I hope I get the hang of it.

It takes time but it is deffo an art. Its a shame that you can get better laptimes with a controller but when you drive for real you dont sit there with a Xbox controller in ya hands. :)

g27 all the way mate works g8 better than a pad. cant say in perfect line with, a pad so up to you....

A wheel does take a little bit of getting used to but once you are used to it, you will deffinately drive a lot better than with a pad, it is so much easier to make minor adjustments etc with the wheel than with a pad, even on an analogue xbox 360 pad I always used to pull full left or right even for small adjustments, I have had my wheel for a while by the way Beldus, bought it for £50 off ebay and the only games I have had trouble with are older games to be fair, only game that I still play but use a pad for is probably Grid 1 as for some reason it doesnt seem to work right for my wheel lol

I used a 360 controller too and I agree it's close to impossible to make small adjustments on that, both steering, braking and throttle.
But it seems to me that the game compensates for that in a way it doesn't do when you use a wheel.

GRID was a bit tricky to get working, I had to go to the second tab on where you configrue the controller and manually assign the controls but after that it worked.
