Keeps going black screen
Game is randomly going into a black screen. It freezes for a little bit when it first happens and then I can hear the game running fine. It happens in menus and during races within the first 3 minutes of opening the game.

This is not the game man. It is probably your hardware, such as RAM or your harddrive.

don't listen to spartan, same issue here

Nope, definitely is not hardware. 100% of all games work perfect on this machine except anything (and everything) from Codemasters. Yep, Dirt 2 and 3 were purchased and played for 3-5 minutes each also. I assumed it was Games for Windows Live's fault, but this game is purely steam. That's why I bought it and when it works it's a really fun game.

Same thing here. 660 Ti as well.

Codemasters should come up with a fix soon, cause most of us do own 660TI, same thing happens with dirt showdown but no fix since it came a year ago!

In Documents:
Documents\my games\GRID 2\hardwaresettings
look for the file:

Open and look for the line:

<directx forcedx9="false" />

And change for:

<directx forcedx9="true" />

Try with that.

just FYI, it's no longer forcedx9, it's now forcedx10 you will find in that config file.

Last night I was able to play for an extended period after setting the game to LOW settings, quitting the entire game and coming back in.

However, this morning I am not having any luck with that method as it's still crashing randomly sometime between the menu and a couple of races in. Basically 1-5 minutes in it goes black screen.

THIS TIME, though, it's a little different because I'm seeing my display driver stopped responding messages when it happens. It wasn't doing that before, but now it's almost certainly a compatability issue between the latest 6 series drivers and the game. Blame Codemasters. Blame Nvidia. But one of these hacks needs to learn the difference between his♥♥♥♥♥and his elbow.

I'm like way over $100 invested into CodeMasters because I've bought their games on console as well. It wasn't until Dirt 2 that I started racing games on the PC. So far it's been a negative experience and it appears to be something to do with having an Nvidia, Win 7 and this company's games. Not everybody is having this issue, but I can find enough about it on the internet from others where it's time the developers addressed the issue and if they can't, they need to directly contact Nvidia to open up a task there.
