Welcome to THE ultimate rally simulator experience. While Dirt 2 had celebrity endorsement and voiceovers, this game does pack more content, and a newer engine/graphics (not to mention it's available on steam). Even though this game is a few years old, the graphics and simulation are definitely up to par with anything out right now. Codemasters are definitely the experts when it comes to racing simulation. Don't just believe me, ex-race car driver Tiff Needell famously ranked it the best racing simulator in his reviews (beating games like forza motorsport and even gran turismo). You don't have to be a pro driver to pick up and play this game, as it has many optional driving assists. On the other hand, if you consider yourself a pro, this game will gladly humble you and make you polish your skills.
While it might lack some of the minutia customization that some of the other simulators out there have, it makes up for it in pure, uncensored racing fun. My only nitpick would be that it uses GFWL (Games for Windows Live) for multiplayer and saving, and around here GFWL is a cardinal sin. However, because of its native and very customizable controller support, amazing singleplayer, and almost infinite replayability, I am more than willing to forgive them for that. (Edit: Codemasters has announced they are removing GFWL, when this will happen is still uncertain though) (Second edit: In regards to all the reviews of people claiming this game is hard to get started on and navigate the menus... seriously guys? This game is no more complex than your average non-steam game. I understand that this generation is impatient, but really? If you can't be bothered to watch a 30-second intro cutscene, you probably aren't the target audience of most high quality games.)
If track racing is your thing, I would recommend looking into Grid 2 (also a codemasters work of art), however if you are like me and you prefer good old fashioned rally and rallycross, THIS IS YOUR GAME.
