How do I use this spell?

Illumination or Pact of the Damned...If I equip it in right mouse slot to cast, nothing happens when I attempt to cast it (neither in combat nor out of combat); the first companion can cast illumination on HIMSELF

I think it's supposed to go up to your character healthbar thing at the top left corner.

Unfortunately, I cannot drag and drop and if I click in one of the 3 squares it automatically starts me running somewhere... so how it goes there is still a mystery! :(
