You guys think this will be worth it?
I dunno, but I think it might not. I just don't think it will work out that good.

If it works as it was shown in it's preview video then I'd say yeah. The $300 pricetag is a bit steep but I wouldn't expect such advanced, non-Terminator affiliated, science-filled technology to be cheap.

The Developer Kit won't be as polished as the final consumer version but I have no doubt the consumer version will kick major ♥♥♥. They have all the technology they need, but they have to start somewhere, and that's now.

I am no developer myself, just a hardcore gamer who wants to try this new level of immersion. The Razer Hydra is awesome, but the Oculus Rift plays in a much higher league!

hell yeh this is the best idea for tf2 in the whole world :)

^Well, I'm still kinda iffy about it. I'm just gonna wait until the conusmer version comes out. Hopefully it will be completely to almost-completely perfected by then. Not saying it isn't right now, but some people have been telling me that it might be better just to wait it out.

Not sure for TF2. Honestly, when I look at the Rift and the Hydra, what comes to mind is: Mechwarrior and other sims (freelook from within a cockpit, or freelook to control torso twist combined with Razor control of 'mech arm direction, that sort of thing). For vehicular combat games, the ability to quickly take very quick and precise looks to the sides for instance might be very handy.

Oh, and for the Oculus Rift specifically, I'm rather surprised that it doesn't seem to have any form of audio, because if you're serious enough to be considering throwing down a few hundred dollars+ on a VR headset primarily marked for gaming, I'd think that you'd also be serious enough to want things like at least a simulacrum of surround sound for directional cues, and wearing the Oculus Rift *and* a separate headset so the sound properly tracks while you face different directions seems like it might be awkward.

Oh yeah, that's right! Didn't think of that. Maybe the consumer version will include something like that. But yeah, I've made my decision to wait the the consumer version.

Surround sound works with any headphones that have the ability to have different sound for the left and right ear, but most of it is done with software, by simulating sounds differently for each ear based off of distance. You're brain fills in the blanks, this is exactly the same as 3d vision.

The reason why the oculus rift does not come with headphones is because you want the best sound as you can get, which you would be better off buying seperately from the oculus rift anyway. I know that I want to use my personal headphones, because they're higher quality than what oculus would supply with their hmd.

Here's my humble opinion, having received my rift and after having used it for a couple of days:

Do not give up on it after only using it a couple of times! Like a fine wine, the subtle ways I appreciate the Rift's added immersion grow and change the more I use the rift. Use it, go to sleep, and when you wake up and try it again, you will appreciate the experience so much more! Motion Sickness subsides with use (though I never had any to begin with). Plus, you get better at playing with it: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=137369894
In just half an hour, I racked up 52 points with the Soldier on a crowded 2fort server! As your tolerance grows, you can go back to the Mouse/Keyboard and kick ♥♥♥!

It's definitely worth the $300 for the new (almost equal) way I can experience one of my favorite games. I just still get bugged at not being able to read text or see the keyboard, but text will become legible with resolution, and an all-rift server will be using microphones anyways.

Well maybe not now sense its only devlopment kits out at the moment.
Totally worth the looking into once it hits commercial market though.
Seriously, if you haven't seen what its like yet, highly recommend it. I've only seen a preview video and I'm way blown away.
