Team Fortress 2 - Do I get the promo item right away?
The question that over 90% of the people are wondering: Do we get Oculus Rift promo item right after pre-purchase?

*looks down with hands in pockets and kindly kicks dirt* just wondering...

No, at least at the current time you don't; I still didn't get mine, and I'm a Kickstarter backer (very early buyer). It's probably going be later this week.

The promo hat wasn't added in the last update.

Where exactly does it say theres a promo?

I've obviously not bought it yet since it's only a dev kit and I'd rather hold on and get the finished product - I'll be annoyed if I miss out on a promo for something like that.

I saw a picture. I got excited. You can't blame me. But is it wrong to say that I would buy it right now, if I got the item they showed. ;-;

Think about it though, the picture has the DEVKIT design on it. (lemme know if i'm wrong)

it does look like they might add a promo item in for this kit, but i would consider it unfair if it was only for people who got the developer kit. i think that anyone who gets the consumer kit (or dev kit) at any time in the month its released should get this promo item, if there is gonna be a promo item.

it sure looks like there will be a promo item for this VR stuff..

The promo item is in the game. They just haven't sent out the codes to unlock them yet.

According to this, you have to either have A: Backed the kickstarter project which already ended, or B: Pre-Order a Dev Kit before April 1st, 2013. :( http://www.oculusvr.com/blog/team-fortress-2-in-the-oculus-rift/

"Exclusive Rift Dev Kit Hat for TF2

The icing on the cake? To commemorate this momentous occasion, Valve created an exclusive new TF2 hat: the Oculus Rift development kit.

Now you may be saying: “Wow. Could this possibly get any better?” The answer: A resounding “Yes”.

Valve has generously donated these fashionable Rift hats to the Oculus developer community. If you backed the Kickstarter campaign at any level, or if you pre-ordered a Rift development kit from our website before April 1, 2013, (and haven’t refunded/canceled your pledge/order) you’ll receive a code to redeem your very own TF2 Oculus dev kit hat.

Wear it with pride. You earned it."

I would buy it, but I want the consumer version. I love the goggles, but since it isn't the consumer, I think i'll wait
Yoshi-1up 21. März 2013 um 15:55 Uhr
How long til the consumer version? I'm gonna guess 2 years. What do you guys think/know?

I'd say a year, most likely. The device itself is fully functional, they just need to up the resolution, reduce latency further, and make it smaller. It might take longer depending on feedback from developers, should any bigger changes be necesitated.
