Ok, after actually managing to download this via a miracle, i'd like to know if I buy a retail version of the game or the orange box version, can I use ithat to upgrade my account to a preminum one? I'm having trouble atm so I can't buy anything online for awhile so I'm hoping that theis way would work.

Yup, had a spare copy lying around and thought it'd just give it to a friend to make him premium, turns out you still ge the hat.

It works. You could also have a friend gift it to you via steam and later pay them in cash.
