To make an item you have to go into crafting and follow the recipe for the weapon.

Not like that. I mean create a something like a new gun that isnt in the game, Or a hat that isnt all ready in the game

oh that. yes, it should be possible, since mac used to be OS of choice for designers around the world. so you should be able to find a design software on mac.

This contains everything you need to know about making items. Most 3D model programs use a lot of ram and heavy cpu usage when rendering items, so i'd recommend a computer with at least 4gb ram and a decent cpu. Creating items is not easy, you'll need a lot of experience in the use of 3D programs and good at modelling.

Actually I believe Blender is Mac Compatible, Heck since macs are good at picture editing you might even be better off then PC users.

http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/

This is the kind of program you need, there are tutorials on the websight as well as this

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1536668

might help a lot.

As for the rest of the technical stuff, I dunno, I'm not a good programmer and model maker (on a computer anyway), best of luck in your craft.

Tolna covered it, but all you need is a modelling program like Blender, Maya, etc

just model and texture the item and then do whatever

look up a tutorial.
