TF2 Storyline?
I don't know if this is a good idea, considering how the only true story of tf2 is in halloween, but what if they added a campaign mode? one where you got special assignments on certain maps, with solo and multi styles, and it kind of forced you to play with each different class. Not one that uses just everyday things, but ones where u get special missions like: spy- go down and hack enemy base ( this requires special campaign only map) or something like that! I think it might be a good idea... Thoughts? Suggestions?

Um...TF2 already has storyline but it's just hidden, besides we have MvM.
TheManInTheFedora 2012. nov. 14. @ du. 4:33
not really... not one you can actually play through. I mean one where you get on with certain coms to complete a certain task, but the task is actually difficult instead of capture a piont, push a cart, or get a briefcase to a certain place.
TBAGtv 2012. nov. 14. @ du. 4:41
I was thinking similar but it should be listed beside training mode as an additional treat. It should recall how 1) The team got to gether. 2) some of the major stories like special delivery & MvM 3) The significance of all the characters (including the event bosses).

No, tf2 has a story line already which if you dont know, why play something you dont know about?
And seeing as this is purely a multiplayer game where you play with friend's, campaign mode would be stupid.
TBAGtv 2012. nov. 14. @ du. 6:32
Who cares if it is mainly multiplayer, the point is fun and my version gives something extra to newer players but contributes to the fanbase and you know its really about the fanbase anyways. Their will always be a multiplayer addition via map or playmode, but a singleplayer history mode that fills the stories in for new players who are too lazy to look up wikis, comics and forums out of the game can get a real fanbased education in the game without annoying regs.
Anything to make my life as a gamer regular easier I'm down for and hell with those who aren't down with making my life easier. I rather a gamemode to do my job for me because answering each noob with the same answer to the same question makes me lazy and you know Valve won't get money from me if I'm lazy.

Seriously though, who wants to play a game about a world where the only woman is 80 years old?

What is Ms. Pauling? Did you even read the comics?

Someone should mod HL2 and make this guy's wet dreams come true.

Seriously though, who wants to play a game about a world where the only woman is 80 years old?

Basically this is the darkest game ever created, with a higher percentage of unspoken homosexual innuendo than I could have ever imagined before I actually played it. Personally I think the extraneous plot elements are hilarious through and through, but still, I think the plot is just a vehicle for jokes about this ridiculous genre of games. I could possibly see the plot being expanded if they made TF3 (episode 1?) populated entirely by females, and replace the weird female voice character with a male character. Then may be they could create an even more bizarre image of the Team Fortress world. However, moving this plot forward would be a very strange process.

The way I see it now is that TF2's story is told in a way similar to that of the Hellboy comic book series; there is meaningless, but beautifully executed action, and the plot is illustrated in small ways in the background. Every once in a while there is some intervention of direct explanations (aka halloween events / something blatantly reveals an aspect of Hellboy's background and purpose). May be this is a bad analogy for some people, but I think others will know what I mean.

Anyway, I think the weird images of Saxton Hale swinging through the jungle in jorts, with a big mustache more or less say it all. The game is meant to be silly and fun, and extremely campy. A Half-Life 2 style story would be so convoluted and insane that no one could possibly take it seriously, and a mission based action format would just be sad. (Imagine the missions... a capture the flag mission... Yeah. Oh go get those capture points from the bots... Oh and go be the king of that hill against these bots... Now defeat the halloween monsters... Now kill Saxton Hale... Congratulations, now watch the credits role... at the end of the credits you unlock the secret Neon Heights Minecraft Trade jumping puzzle mission!)

Sorry to delete and repost, I was fixing a spelling error.

I've read one of the comics, but it was sort of by accident before I'd ever played the game and I didn't really pay attention. I didn't get the jokes, and I was all wtf. Where can I find them now?

P.S. can you blame me for not knowing about a character that isn't even in the game**?

**as far as I've noticed. (photo in the background somewhere?)

your idea? no way, this was MY post
TheManInTheFedora 2012. nov. 14. @ du. 7:10
and btw, campaign could be a lot of fun. I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there who would actually like to hmm, i don't know, learn some real backstory? and show how maybe pyro went insane? or how scout's life was before he was a merc? or maybe, you could go as soilder, and design ur own medals. Engineer, how about we give you some kind of reason he is interested in machinery besides the blueprints in his dead fathers grave? play through as demoman and learn how he got so good at bombs and yet somehow sweeping a library. How about where the medic came from? obviously not some wimpy medical school. sniper never told us how he possibly was forced to become an assasin! and spy... what is his story? what forced him to go incognito? a bad woman? some horrible incident? why is the rest of his face covered? Wheres your storyline behind THAT?

have you ever played a campaign game (like halo or something)with friends? They are really fun!

If they did go about a few story missions they should make it to where you can play with three other people (or however many), and be able to compete for points nearly the same way you get points in a multiplayer server, but with the campaign elements within it.

The other people that you join up with could be the other members of the red or blu team, and i'm sure Valve would blend their story's together.
TheManInTheFedora 2012. nov. 14. @ du. 7:47
that could be multi.. solo would be one character, and you unlock weapons for them along the way, possibly even a few hats.
PackmanJohnny 2012. nov. 14. @ du. 8:02
we dont need a campaign. the comics are enough

No.
And I say this as an avid pen-and-paper roleplaying nerd.

This whole proposal of yours is blatantly only aimed at having "quests" that unlock rare weapons. What's next, leveling-up? Go play a damn MMORPG.

The TF2 comics, updates, Meet the Team videos and all that stuff can be found here:
http://www.teamfortress.com/history.php
http://www.teamfortress.com/comics.php

And of course there's the TF2 Wiki, which also has collected pages of text on all the characters and storylines.

And the Fanfiction community has created several brilliant, moving, well-written stories (among the inevitable dross). Of course, those aren't official canon.

Saxton Hale really is a gay Indiana Jones. It's amazing. He's like something out of the Venture Brothers... wtf. I guess I have to read all of these comics now.

P.S. Also, fanfiction... I'd never read it, but my friend and I often text and e-mail perverted or upsetting images when we're at work and I've definitely sent him some TF2 deviantart. The shipping is rampant and bizarre and always hilarious.
