Kicked do to someone else hacking...?
I joined a game of special delivery yesterday. Some guy was making constant noices on his mic so the team decided to kick him. My team was winning (YAY), but out of nowhere, the same sound started to come through again, it was annoying untill I realize it said my name on the mic sound! What? Then it just became alerting. Not only was the sound coming through but it was also being typed as a chat by my name! It was something like "MUAHMUAHMUAH" I didnt even have the mic conected to my controller and I tried telling the team it wasnt me doing this by tiping it to the chat, but it was so constant, it would scroll my text up as soon as it appeared. I ended up being kicked. I though steam names were unique for each person, untill I saw my name in the recent players list. Excatly like my name. AlphaDragon85 but it wasnt my profile. I first thought my account was hacked, but then I thought he was just a hacker doing this BS some how. I reported him to steam. I hope they investigate him. Has this happened to anyone else? Im assuming this happened to the first guy who got kicked but I'm not sure.

Hackers usually have name-changing scripts so that votekick kicks the wrong player.

You can change your name to anything at any time, you know. I could change my name to AlphaDragon85 right now if I wanted.

Wow, really? Thats so messed up. If hackers want to hack their own game for what ever reason, I would'nt care less, but why ruin it for others. Thanks for telling me this though. I was worried I hads reported him wrongfully and maybe it was just a glitch on the server. But with this info, I'm sure I did the right thing. Hope this doesn't happen to others on a more serious manner.

Yeah, a lot of hackers use the name-switch thing and it often leads to an innocent person being banned/kicked.
As long as you are sure you kicked the right person, you did the right thing.

Some servers let you change your name too... Remember when my name was still the start of my email adress, everyone changed to my name the moment I went on a server... So funny. But this is hacks, on those it says if there is a change so never mind.

The hackers never start a vote kick against the real person, so the person who is having their identity stolen should start the vote kick, works all the time in my experience.

Or... they should make it so it gets the STEAM ID of the person and kicks that - names can be changed, STEAM IDs can't.

Seriously, it makes the most ♥♥♥♥ing sense that kicks should be STEAM ID, IMO.

I agree 100% it does make more sense to do that.

So if this was to happen again. I would have to find my name on the list and vote to kick me off(the person using my name)? That would cause the other person to get kicked. is that right? Makes since, sort of turning it all around on the hacker! That sounds perfect! Next time, I'll definitely will get the last laugh. lol is a lot to remember but I appreciate all this info. Im more informed now and I hope this thread could maybe help someone else in the future. Thank you all again!

The hackers with name changing bots (at least when someone impersonated me) add a space on the name, so their name is still unique on the server, but looks like yours because the space does not show.

I figured that out after someone with an aimbot and name changer used my name. Suddenly I saw my name up for vote kick and the vote succeeded, but I did not get kicked because admin already recognized the issue and eventually kicked the hacker. When I looked at my logs I could see that they were aleady trying to track him down while using other names. And when he used my name there were 2 spaces between my name and the next word in the logs vs. 1 space for the real me.
