How do I change my tf2 hitsound?

You have to move any custom files. Here's the Valve faq about it from teh Steampipe announcement.


"Q. My custom hitsound broke. How do I fix it?

Move your custom hitsound to a directory such as tf/custom/my_custom_stuff/sound/ui/hitsound.wav. The folder name "my_custom_stuff" is of your choosing; see below for more info."

The update moved the folder structure from under your username to under "common" - you're modifying the wrong (old) folder. You can delete it, and just use the new one.

1. Download the sound you want from Gamebanana or that one hitsound site or whatever.
2. If it isn't already in a folder, put the sound in sound/ui.
3a. If you want, put it in one more folder (named anything) and pack it as a VPK using the tool found in common/Team Fortress 2/bin. Move the VPK into tf/custom.
3b. Otherwise, put it in one more folder anyway (named anything) and put in tf/custom.
