The Votekick Option....
Who is the ♥♥♥♥♥ who designed the votekick function so it doesn't take the steam ID of the one being votekicked?

Seriously?

Without that function, THE VOTEKICK BECOMES COMPLETELY USELESS.

On a server right now, got an aimbotter who keeps namechanging, making EVERY VOTE FAIL.

If the bright people at valve had planned ahead then they would have at least made it so the votekick stored the steam ID, kicked by ID, so namechanges didn't affect the outcome of the vote, or otherwise screw it up. Currently the hacker, or griefer trolling just needs to change his/her name to evade a kick.

Really, doesn't that see like a stupid thing to overlook?

In THIS specific case, that spurred this thread, I did record lots of video w/ FRAPS, so I hope the evidence is sufficient/if so the turdbasket enjoys a VAC ban, but still - I am still SHOCKED that something like this was overlooked.

Why doesn't Valve just make it so that you can't change names while in game?
It would completely fix issues with votekicking the wrong person.

Because that's too simple.

And it should apply to all steam games. It's not just TF2 that has the name changing problem.

I meant "in game" as in any Steam game, not just TF2.
And what do you mean "that's too simple"?

Valve doesn't do simple. Unfortunately.

I'm totally there with you on the no name change in game, but it's been months of the name changing hackers running around and no word from valve.

I'd like for a captcha to show up if you spam name changes.

can't you just find the guy/hacker in your recently played with thing and find out who was the real one (by seeing his profile and seeing his previous names and info and tell the diffrence) and report him or something?

Because unlike other games. TF2 isn't interested in alienating their customers. TF2 still embodies the age old philosphiphy of "kick his ♥♥♥ if he's a trouble maker." I respect that idea.

I could, but why should that be the only option? Why not, if we have the ability to votekick, make it so it, I dunno, actually works?

You can still votekick namechanging hackers...
Wait for him to change to your name, then start the vote...

On Valve servers, can you votekick yourself? If not, then this is probably the best way.

Do votekicks last 5 minutes after, or is it just a kick in which users can re-join?

If the latter - the user can re-join right after - I like that idea, though at the same time it kinda makes it useless if they already know, or can figure it out easily.

IMO though it still is something they need to fix - as we shouldn't have to resort to such workarounds to use a system e were given to deal with problems when we actually have problems that require using it.
