Exactly how do you calculate defense? Unless you base it on resistances, which only come with certain items and not classes, it would be rather similar to Jarate; if it is based on such resistances, it would be almost completely useless in terms of practical applications.

I mean, it's possible, but the way you word it makes it seem rather difficult to implement while still being useful. Personally, the name sounds like it should be something that increases the explosive knock-back taken from an opponent, due to the nature of how Oil tends to make surfaces slippery, unless that's something cartoons have misinformed me of. It sounds a bit more practical that way, since it could turn minor launches into large lifts, which have some synergy with the Direct Hit due to the nature of the Rocket Launcher; it also promotes a Demoman or Soldier to clear off points indirectly, which would have significant uses.

Why die trying to dislodge someone when you can just blast them so far away they can't contest you? It seems like it'd be a little more unique a concept than defense reductions, which is essentially the concept of Mini-Crits and Criticals; additional damage is essentially a reduction in maximum Health for other classes, assuming they solely take damage from those sources, so it just tends to be much simpler for the Jarate to inflict additional damage from further attacks rather than reduce defense, since a defense stat doesn't exist.

Nevertheless, there's some potential in the original idea, but it just needs to be ironed out in a way that allows it to function in the game as is; if it solely applies to resisted damage types, it seems like it would be virtually useless against anything but a Demoman with one of the two Shields or a Vaccinator Medic and his patient.

If they have no Rockets then they probably shouldn't be trying to contest a point, unless they use a Shotgun, but any Soldier who runs the Buff Banner or Battalion's Backup would be in the same position with this item. I mean, that's a pointless argument, because it's like saying the Scout is in a bad position if he uses the Mad Milk and has no Scattergun shots left; yes, it's true, but that's the choice he makes by using the Mad Milk instead of a Pistol, and he has to live with it.

Weapons are meant to provide advantages and disadvantages in a way that makes players think about which is better for the situation or their method of play, so the argument that you give really has little relevance; if it were to apply to knock-back from any explosive weapon, or knock-back in general, then another ally could always take your role after you apply it while you reload or scrounge for ammunition.

This entire arguement is pointless, dude, it's just an idea, VALVe usually doesn't publish steam community items anyway, this discussion on the item isn't that serious!

It's rather ironic that you're calling an argument pointless when you yourself have an idea you wish implemented, or at the very least, have a possibility of being implemented; ideas are meant to be debated, especially theoretical ones, which have no concrete factors to oppose them. I mean, if the idea isn't meant to be debated, then this entire thread is pointless because there are a plethora of other methods to find a modeler for your ideas.

Are you actually criticising me in full

== Offensive Oiler ==

Weapon: Secondary
Class: Soldier
Type: Throwable

Effects ==

+ Enemies Struck will be coated in oil, Oil causes the screen to become blurry.
+ When Enemies are under the influence of Oil, Additional 50% from fire based weapons (Pyro and Soldier teams).
- Oil will affect both Enemies and Allies
- Oil thrown into fire will ignite and cause massive damage to all nearby.

How's this sound for making it an interesting weapon?
matt 10 marca 2013 o 15:06
Have u sent it
matt 10 marca 2013 o 15:07
