Where's the fun?
I have played TF2 for over 1100 hours, and have had a blast in that time. But lately, it seems as though the fun is gone. It's all about hats, keys, pros, noobs, etc. What do you guys think of how TF2 has turned out. And please, do not fill this with hate.

Thank you.

It all started on that one faithful day...

i kinda agree with you on that. most if not all of the matches consist of an extraordinary abundance of scrubs, either on the team i am on or the opposition which leads to either 3 spies and 3 snipers on payload offense or one team just steamrolling the other

You're right, I play TF2 for fun not hats, but there are too many people focused on hats and leveling strange weapons and saying F2Ps are noobs, idlers... Why dont pople just play the game? I havent been trading for a long time, but I want one set of hats for every class, then I dont care about hats anymore.

I guess it's time for you to start playing competitively then.

To be honest. You're kinda right. The "Fun Maps" are now more or less trade servers. But you also realise that when it started it was all just a crapton of micspam and meme's floating around in the allchat. Now it's just trade spam.

There is still fun to be had. For me? I like Payload, still. Quickplay is enough for me really.

Personally, I think trading really killed a lot of TF2. People take the whole trading scene waaaaay too seriously. I've been "made fun of" for trying to buy that Football Helmet for the heavy one time lol. I believe it's gotten way outta hand if people are only caring for expensive hat's rather then say, a hat you like.

It's like when I played Runescape way back when. If you didn't have a Party Hat (A freakishly expensive item) or a level 99 skill + it's cape, you were nothing in the eyes of pretty much everyone. It really grinds my gears when people try to turn a Game into some kind of Job. I can tollerate a lot of typs of people, Membasers, Bronies, Freeloaders, other furries, Youtube view farmers, Kids, guys that say "kid", Girl Gamers, Knights, White Knights, Weeabos, techies, Treckies, and a crapton of other stuff. But MAN do I hate Big Businessmen!

Join the club friend. Almost 1,300 hours over here. I basically don't give a **** about the whole trading, hats, whatever ****. I basically only go to trade for a weapon that I use often and even then I'm not all that inclined (took me a while to bother to trade for a strange medigun). If I get a drop, that's fine, but it's just a distraction.

Seems that some players however are using TF2 to generate keys/earbuds as a form of currency to buy non-TF2 related games and items.

But I do agree that the game has become less of a FPS and more of a "trade me for this!" deal.

Think it's just you lost intrest in the game and should move on to something new.
If you really enjoy the game, you'll love playing it despite all the vanity item craze and unexperienced/angry users ruining the experience for others.

You, sir, need to regain control of your account. I'm afraid it's been compromised. :P

Anyway- as the gentleman above me has just illustrated, yes, it's gotten out of hand. I haven't even hit 1000 hours and I'm often tempted to try competitive... though I know I'm not nearly good enough. I can barely make contact with a scattergun and can't even reliably deflect rockets, for heaven's sake.

I've played 800+ hours since I first started playing 8 months ago and I still enjoy the game. I don't care about hats, keys, trading, etc. because that's really not what this game is all about to me. I'll take an occasional break for a week here and there and I always return with renewed enthusiasm. Maybe that's what you need to do too. However, the things that bother me the most in game are the idle players in spawn, the players who are messing around or not playing as a team to accomplish the objectives. I don't care if there are bad players during a match because not everyone is on the same skill level either because their new or aren't that good at fps games. You also sound like your a little conflicted if you have problems with both noobs (I hate using that reference) and pros. Yeah, I think you need to take a break from the game for a while.

4,000+ hours here, still having a blast. If I'm bored of the normal gameplay, I go to the custom mod servers. (Gamemode madness, prophunt, dodgeball, zombies, saxton hale, etc) When I'm bored of the custom mods, I go back to normal gameplay. If I'm currently bored of both, I just play something else.

One day (Lord knows, this has happened a million times to me), I'll be playing something and suddenly think "Wow, TF2 sounds really fun right now" and end up playing TF2 for the entire day.

Ya I have thousands of hrs on this game and still have fun. Yes I trade but i'm only trading till have all the hats I need. But now I been playing on the real servers not trade servers. Some people just get bored with tf2 seein lots of players come and go over the years.

In the game.

On the subject of trading... Why woud anyone want unusual hats? What's the point there? A hat with some random particle effect attached to it that people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars trying to get... Just so their hat is on fire. Anyone see my logic?

CUZ IT'S SHINY!!!!!

People do stupid **** for bragging rights. You could get a decent watch for $150. Or you could drop $1,000 to $50,000 for watch with the same features. At least those are actual tangible goods.
