Lag But With Good Specs
I bought this computer for 1200$, and I'll be damned if I can't run TF2 properly on it.
It takes 5 minutes to load up
It takes 5 minutes to "retrieve server info"
And mvm even on the lowest graphics settings is so laggy with less than 10 fps.
When going to the items menu from the homemenu, upon selecting a specific class it will play the "class selected" noise (a clicking sound) 10-20 times before actually selecting the class.
It's odd, the in game menu recommends high on all of the settings for me, as indicated by an asterisk
Here are my specs:
8 gb ram
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce GTX 560M
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_204A1043&REV_A1
Display Memory: 4047 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1999 MB
Shared Memory: 2047 MB
Current Mode: 1600 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
Monitor Model: unknown
Monitor Id: SEC544B
Native Mode: 1600 x 900(p) (59.998Hz)
Output Type: Internal
Unfourtunately I dont know what half this crap means, I just copypasted the Dxdiag information. I do know however, that TF2 should not be this paifully slow. Running windows 7 incase that helps.
Really any assitance at all is helpful, I've spent loads of time googling this. Thank you

The thing with MvM is it maxes out all the player slots which is 32 on non official servers, And it throws on smoke particles onto each robot as well as crit and jitter effects, I think you can get what I'm going at, There's a ♥♥♥♥ ton of particles getting thrown at you that is 'killing' your FPS because your computer can't quite render every single one without going to a lower FPS, The only logical 'fix' for this would be to get a sprite mod that would disable a few the effects while still keeping the game playable, Like smoke, Explosions and crits on weapons or small things like the smoke effects coming from each bot, I use a few mods such as that and it did wonders for me, Now I have a terrible computer but it made it less terrible.

That covers just the particles, The slow loading can be the server you join, I sometimes have this problem with servers lately, I just avoid those servers, And a possible fix for your problem with somewhat extensive loading is just well loading, Your 'version' of TF2 might have a preset code that forces your computer to 100% preload the map, I use a modified version of that code to make it load quite a bit faster you can probably learn more about all that from the official Configs that help with FPS to general connections to servers, and such

I hope you find this a little bit helpful, The mod I am using for particles is a bit older and only covers a few thing but not like the Tank Explosions and such that can really put you down, I can set you up with a few links or somewhat references if you'd like but I don't really know much more unless you go into further detail like when does your FPS tank and ect.
Is regular play affected?

The problem with mobile versions...is well, they're the mobile version. Even still though, you should be okay.

Might want to verifty that you're actually *using* the 560M and not relying on the Sandy Bridge integrated graphics. You should be able to use the nVidia drivers to specifically choose the 560M for the HL2.exe executable if for some reason it's being silly.

Other bit -- if you have a slow hard drive or overzealous security software running in the background, those might be issues.

How would I go about ensuring that I'm USING all of the ram?
WEEN RIPPER 25/fev./2013 às 2:24
Regular play is affected yes. Especially when in fire fights with large groups of people. Sorry for the slow responses, was taking a nap

What do you mean by mobile version?

Have you installed the most recent drivers for your video card from NVidia? Are you running any other programs on the desktop that are hogging your memory resources? Do you have multiple web pages playing or caching videos in the background while you play? Any of those can cause your FPS to tank. And also, check if you have an integrated graphics processor on your Mobo. Make sure its been disabled in your BIOS so that you know your video output is coming directly from your graphics card and not being hijacked from the internal hardware.
WEEN RIPPER 25/fev./2013 às 3:58
Yes I have
No im not
No web pages
Idk what caching videos means, please elaborate
Idk what mobo means, or how to disable the integrated graphics card
Those things sound very useful though, thank you for your comment. I just need some elaboration
DBladedPantz 25/fev./2013 às 4:04
Everytime you boot your machine after turning it on, it displays your motherboard's (mobo's) specs: memory detected, serial devices connected (parrallel drives on older machines), and if it was selected, the status of each HDD detected. There's always an option to press a key and open your BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). The key you press varies from Mobo to mobo and you should either keep an eye out as the machine boots or consult your Mobo manual. Within BIOS you can find an option to look at your onboard devices such as the ethernet port, onboard audio, and onboard video. Make sure you have the onboard video disabled if indeed you do have an integrated graphics card on the Mobo, then exit and save your changes and the machine will reboot again just as when you hit your power button. If all goes well, the system will defer to the only other choice available, your graphics card to run games and your problem is solved. If not, you may have more complications then I can foresee this early in the morning.

Hey man, thank you. I'll see if that works. And same for me, it's 4 am and I think that was the last episode of samurai champloo for tonight. I will try it in the 'morrow!

I also have this problem. I have played 1500 hours without a problem, and only started getting the horrid fps lag probably 3months ago.

The only thing our computers have in common is that i am using a GTX560

It happens in MP as well, not just in MVM.

Although i believe it was some time around when MVM came out i first experienced this issue.

Slow loading is not related to the server side of things, but something to do with this bug.

Let us know if it works, and good luck to you good sir/maam.

Yeah mine also lags on multiplayer. And i know the loading times are problems clientside

What do you mean by mobile version?

Mobile versions are the laptop versions of the regular part. They tend to perform worse than the regular part. For instance, my desktop 560 will destroy your 560M. The Mobile parts are weaker in performance for a variety of reasons, mostly to save on power consumption.

SInce you stated that regular play is affected, it's your machine that's lagging. On a laptop, there's not much you can do. Try do the BIOS setting to make sure you're using the 560M and not the intergrated graphics, but other than that, it's hard to help you as you simply can't upgrade.

Also, make sure nothing else is running but Steam and Tf2 when you play to maxamize resources.

Mobile GFX card and CPU - laptop says a lot.

A desktop version of the same card will performa twice as fast in most cases compared to a laptop version same goes for a CPU not to mention the fact laptops over heat exceedingly easy.

Regardless if they are a gaming laptop or not.

As above says "Try do the BIOS setting to make sure you're using the 560M and not the intergrated graphics" and check it isnt running in a low power state either your CPU or gfx card check your power settings and or OEM utilities thast adjust power saving etc.
