Black Screen on Ubuntu
Hey, everyone! I just installed TF2 on Linux, and when it comes up, I can hear the load sound, and then it starts playing the load music, but the screen is totally black. I click around with my mouse, and I can hear that the mouse does manage to hit a few buttons, so the game itself is responsive. It's just that TF2 loads with a black screen. I have tried the LANG=C, etc. edits, and here are my launch settings: "-window -nojoy -dxlevel 85 -console". I have no idea why it's still not launching. Frankly, I don't give a crap about the Tux, but I really, really, really want to play TF2 in a non-Windows, non-laggy environment. If someone could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Also, I heard that I have to update my OpenGL to version 3.0, but I can't find anywhere or anyhow to download and install it. :/

How did you install it? I used Wubi, since Steam redirected me to it, and I experienced no problems whatsoever.

Just update the drivers...

Try a different window manager. You might have more luck with, say, openbox or lxde.

@Badinkajink: I use Wubi.
@Horst: How? I've tried updating the Proprietary Drivers, and the only one that showed up was for my Broadcom.
@Zultkop: What do you mean, window manager? I'll look it up.

I tried Openbox and LXDE, and they don't change anything. The sound still plays, the buttons still work, but it's still black screen.

Why not try -autoconfig

In your Steam games list, right-click TF2, select Properties, then the Set Launch Options button. Add the text -autoconfig there and hit Ok. Hopefully TF2 will reconfigure itself properly once you try to run it again.

OK, I'll try that. Thanks!
